I am hoping some of you out there can help me. I am looking to buy an electric trolley and, after much research, had decided on a Hill Billy.
But when I went to their website I found they have a new model out called the Compact Plus. It seems very similar to the Hi-Lite but with a more powerful motor and new handle design. However, although I can find plenty about the Hi-Lite I cannot find any reviews or forum enties about the Compact Plus.

Has anyone out there got one? If anyone can help me in my decision I would really appreciate it.

P.s. There is an autumn offer on at the mo making the Compact Plus about the same price as the Hi-Lite at £250 inc delivery.

Also, £250 is my budget so please don't recommend me Powakaddys or Stewart X3's - they may be wonderful trolleys but they're out of my price range.

Thanks.

Get the Compact Plus (on offer)
I have the HiLite and it is a great trolley - and light ...... but
The Compact Plus has a few definate improvements although a little heavier -

the motor and battery are more powerful
the bag retaining straps are a better design
the handle is a better design
the wheels are a better design

Does what it says on tin, solid & reliable, but beware that hill-billy don't as yet make 36hole batteries, so if you have a shotgun start on a long course, be prepared to push the d@mn thing for a long distance!

Thanks Taz & SB.

SB, I can't remember the last time I played a shotgun event but thanks for the warning.

HillBilly are now using 20Ah batteries on their trolleys (they used to be 17Ah) so should easily take on the longest 18 hole courses - even from a shotgun.

You can get 36 hole batteries for hill billys just watch the size as mine is about 2 cm too tall at the base and hangs over but is still ok.

GG,

Would be grateful if you could indicate where & whether another charger is needed?

Appreciate hill-billy keep market share by only recommendeding their batteries via warranty, but would prefer to take my chances rather than throw the trolley out of window if it ever packs up again!!!

Cost me a medal once!

I wouldn't risk using an oversize battery in the HillBilly battery holder, as this is where the circuitboard is and it could easily get damaged by increased flexing.

Better to get an additional 20Ah battery £30 from Direct golf.
Just alternate the charging and take both batteries when playing 36 holes.

You guys are making me nervous about my impending purchase! Is the battery a weak point?

I wasn't too worried before as virtually all of the golf I play is 18 holes.

And please is there anyone out there with personal experience of the Compact Plus?

No, battery is fine for most courses, ie around 6500yrds.

Unfortunately, my course is a fair bit in excess of this + distances between greens-tees and have had batteries slowly dying on me (despite being on constant trickle charge) when covering last 2 holes, never mind on shotgun starts where it conks out with 3 holes to go and an almighty trek back to clubhouse.

Just wish i had been aware of it when considering options.

However, as you said, if you gen just play 18 on an av length course, you won't go far wrong as reliability and after-sales service are the backbone of hill-billy's reputation.

Just wish they'd see the marketing opportunity to put one over their rivals!

G7 - The HillBilly Compact Plus has only just come out.
It is an improvement over the previous Compact in a number of areas but the baseline components are tried and tested over many years of development.
The battery is not a weak point - My HiLite has got a 17Ah battery that came with the trolley over two years ago - it has never let me down.
I bought an extra battery because I play three times a week and occasionally 36 holes in a day.

Thanks Taz, I think I'm going to go for the Compact Plus. I'll let you know how I get on with it.

Golf 3 times a week and sometimes 36 holes in a day! You must be single!

Shexy Beasht:

I can't remember where I bought the battery, I just searched for "hillbilly golf battery" in google. I bought a Draper charger from amazon as they are cheaper than standard "golf battery chargers" and mine gives an idea of the charge left after a round, although I had to change the connections to the hillbilly torberry style.

Don't forget at the price you're looking at you could also get the Motocaddy S1. I've had one for a couple of weeks now and I'm impressed - quiet, simple and comfortably does 18 over our course which is 6200yds (or 7500 how I'm playing at the moment :( !! ) I think Motocaddy say it'll do 27 holes so might be a good alternative....
Cheers

FYI to gain my perspective, course where I play is approx 7150yrs off the blues + probably about another 1000yrds cummulative distance between holes, so might give a better perspective to my issues re:batteries losing power/trolley slowing right down towards end of rounds.

Had hill-billy 6months, and play 2x a week min & during week in summer evenings & alternate HB batteries between rounds.

Have no probs regards the trolly itself, but just a case I believe of considering what courses you intend to play most often.

Obviously if Hill-billy had produced a 27/36 hole battery, would never have issues, but to be fair they did mention the 18hole limit on their literature.

Good choice G7 - let us know how you get on with it.

...and no I ain't single, very happily married 33 years (sh!t - next week Thanks!)
Just a perfect relationship - she works, I play.

i have forgotten my battery a couple of times(senior moment) and have pushed it round without to much difficulty although my course is not over long
you can always let it freewheel down hill

LOL Taz. Sounds like you've got it sorted.

No charge for the anniversary reminder BTW.
