NEW! BLADE PUTTERS TEST 2014

In the fourth of a new monthly Golfmagic Club Test series, we survey ten top-end blade and mallet putters launched within the last 12 months.

When buying a new putter, one of the biggest questions to ask yourself is ‘do I want a mallet or a blade?’ Traditional thought was that an arcing stroke is better suited to a blade and a straight-back-straight-forward stroke is suited to a mallet. We spoke to World of Golf PGA Professional Grant Guerin to get his take on mallets v blades. Click the link to read what Grant has to say.

About the test

The test was carried out at the World of Golf in New Malden by Golfmagic's Andy Roberts and Charlie Lemay.

We selected our ten brands and then used five of the latest blades and mallets in standard length to hit 20 putts with each (five from 3-feet, five from 6-feet, five from 10-feet and five from 20-feet). All of the putts were struck on the straightest possible line we could find on the putting green.

We marked each putter out of ten for appearance, feel and performance. Andy, a seven handicapper, and Charlie, off 12, both scored separately without consultation and the score presented for each putter is an average of the two. This generated an overall score out of 30 and the overall scores and conclusion can be found on the final page of the feature.

With each putter, we have also provided details of set price, loft, lie and head weight. The test is presented in alphabetical order.
