Not content with having the biggest stand at the annual PGA Merchandise show in Orlando Nike has introduced its biggest driver – 450cc Forged Titanium. It will cost £279 and be available here in May.
It has the largest COR sweet spot in its four-driver, FT line of big-hitters, and says clubmaker Tom Sties: "It’s heat-strengthened and pressed into shape, creating a thin, resilient wall that produces ball velocity at impact that approaches the highest limits allowed."
For example, Nike says Tiger Woods added two degrees to his loft when he switched to their forged titanium driver, and moved from 39th in total distance on the PGA Tour in 2001 to 11th in 2002.
Wilson Golf also revealed its next generation of the Deep Red driver line. The Deep Red II, according to company officials, repositions 40 percent more weight lower and deeper in the clubhead than the original Deep Red driver, which they claim produces more velocity off the clubface and more distance and accuracy.
The Deep Red II Tour model is a 350cc, designed for the serious player who likes to ‘work’ shots through the air and the Deep Red Distance 400cc model is aimed at the club golfer seeking more distance and forgiveness.
Both models will be available in four loft degrees (7.5, 9, 10.5, and 12), and come in Extra Stiff, Stiff, Regular, Lite and Women’s flexes. No price has been fixed as yet but the clubs are likely to be under £400.
