Callaway’s 2006 Big Bertha ball

Callaway Golf aims to make an impact with its latest Big Bertha ball – set to cost £18 per dozen from February 1.

It claims ‘ultra low’ compression, for a ‘very soft’ feel off the clubface but with ‘legendary distance’. It also features HEX aerodynamics, replacing conventional dimples to create a seamless covering for improved lift and stability in flight.

The makers say the new two-piece ball carries a combination of hallmarks from the BB Red and BB Blue balls launched in 2004 – power and distance, yet controllable feel around the green.

"The technology we built into the core of this ball makes it perform unlike any other two-piece ball by adding terrific feel to great distance," says Callaway’s Mike Vagley, who’s in charge of development at the company’s manufacturing base near San Diego.
