In anticipation of their arrival in the UK in November, Titleist is growing in confidence about its latest 909 drivers - especially after its latest win on the European Tour. Spaniard Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño was full of praise for the Titleist 909D3 driver after winning the Quinn Insurance British Masters title at The Belfry on Sunday.
“I’ve been using the new driver this week and it has been amazing, ” said Fernandex -Castrano after his play-off win over defending champion Lee Westwood. “It's probably the best victory of my four on Tour and I'm really happy because my main goal was to get into the last Volvo Masters in Valderrama, so I can't ask for any better than that.”
Prices have yet to be confirmed but loft options for the three drivers - 909 D comp, 909 D2 and 909 D with its slightly smaller 404cc head are 8.5, 9.5, 10.5 and 11.5 degrees - apart from the 909D3 which won't stock a 11.5-degree model.
Fernandez-Castano,started the final round three shots behind the leaders, fbutired a bogey-free final round 67 to match Westwood at 12-under then won the third extra hole (18th).
Apart from the 909D3 driver, Fernández-Castaño used Titleist 690MB irons, Vokey Design pitching and sand wedges, Spin Milled lob wedge, Scotty Cameron Studio Select putter and Titleist ProV1 ball.
On the US tour, Columbian Camillo Villegas also used a Titleist ProV1 ball to edge out Sergio Garcia, who was successfully using a new TaylorMade Rossa TP Daytona putter after his disappointing performance in the Ryder Cup.
