John Letters, one of Scotland’s last remaining clubmakers, is turning back the clock and returning to its roots at the Home of Golf in St. Andrews.
The new workshop and showroom in North Street will enable the company, founded in 1918, to combine the latest performance technology with its club-making traditions and expertise, to hand assemble and custom-build its 2011 range of products, which were revealed at last week's PGA Merchandise Show in Florida.
Among the new products launched in Orlando were the Master Model irons, Tour Black wedges and Golden Goose putters and with representatives from over 200 countries visiting the stand, the company was encouraged by the response.
John Andrew, managing director for John Letters, commented: “The golfers in the US tell us they love the brand with its strong history and heritage. And we were proud to proud to tell them how we will be returning custom built, hand-crafted clubs back to St. Andrews.”
The Master Model irons also received significant praise becuase of their simple looks and soft feel. Many said they appreciated the attention to detail and also commented on the 'Roll-it' technology of the putters.
Douglas McCaig, John Letters’ Scottish agent and son-in-law of the late founder says: “The showroom will be opening shortly and is a great addition to the brand, not just in Scotland, but globally. Golfers of all nationalities visit St. Andrews and it is great to see the company back among the golfing greats.”
