 Delma's Lopez wood.
|
Nancy Lopez is one of the all-time greats of women’s golf – winning everything except the US Women’s Open. Runner-up four times, the nearest she came was in 1997 when Birmingham’s pocket dynamo Alison Nicholas edged her out at the final hole.
However Lopez has been a terrific ambassador for the game and with her distinctive looping swing has won 48 professional events and dominated golf to the same extent in the 1970s and ‘80s as Annika Sorenstam does today.
For several years she has given her name to a range of clubs and at the end of October launches a range of Delma Special woods for women (from 3-wood to 15-wood…yes that’s a wood with a 37-degree loft).
All feature a new lightweight graphite shaft, developed by Aldila, to help produce a more consistent and solid impact on the ball. It’s reckoned to be 20 per-cent lighter than most other shafts.
They are also ideal for juniors new to the game unable to wield heavier, often cut down, men's shafts.
The clubs feature a grooved sole design with rails to make shots from rough easy to extract, and a heel weight design to keep the clubface square.
Available in right-hand only the clubs cost £99 each and have the following lofts: 16 degrees (3-wood), 19 (4), 22 (5), 25 (7), 28 (9), 31 (11), 34 (13) and 37 (15). All can be custom-fitted for Winn grip size, shaft length and flex and come with distinctive matching headcovers.
