Mickelson continues Callaway hot streak

Blade runner: Lefty had 26 putts on Sunday
In the bag: Callaway RAZR X Muscle Back irons

His final-round playing partner may have been busy shouting “FORE!” but Phil Mickelson was more inclined to worry about the number.

Mickelson, who fired a blistering closing round of 64 to land his fourth AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am title on Sunday, also helped bag Callaway’s fourth victory in the last five weeks across the Atlantic.

The Callaway staffer, who valiantly clawed his way back from six behind to win by two, ranked tied third in greens in regulation on 75% with his Callaway RAZR X Forged Muscle Back irons and tied tenth in putting after holing numerous putts from outside 20-feet en route to a sensational final-round 64.

Having unthinkably chopped and changed with his flatstick in recent months, most notably with the belly putter, Mickelson is now back with his Odyssey White Hot XG blade and feeling more confident than ever.

“I certainly am confident now heading into some of our big events. I feel like, you know, my putter is back,” said the popular Californian, who needed just 26 putts on Sunday.

But it wasn’t just the clubs that worked for Lefty as the 40-time PGA Tour champion wasted little time in praising the performance of Callaway’s brand new HEX Black Tour ball.

“I had a big advantage this week, I felt, because when the winds started coming up, when the rain started coming up, I felt like I had an advantage by the way my ball was flying and being controlled through that wind,” added the four-time major champion, who moves up to World No.11 with the victory.

“The new HEX Black Tour ball just flew so good and penetrated through the air so much better that in this thick, cold air I felt like I had a big advantage.”

Mickelson may have found 61.8% of the fairways for the week but when it mattered most on Sunday, he missed just one.

“I feel like I’ve got a driver that’s dialled in with our new RAZR Fit driver. And I feel like I’ve got such control over my flight and trajectory distance control.”

The soon-to-be- Hall of Famer’s victory marked the second worldwide win with a RAZR Fit Driver, following Alvaro Quiros’ victory at the Dubai World Championship in December. The RAZR Fit Driver features Callaway’s OptiFit adjustability system, designed for easy use and noticeable changes in trajectory for each of the settings.

Was pleased to watch the way Mickelson went about winning after being in the pairing with Tiger and all the focus being on whether he would 'roar back'.
I do like Tiger as a great sportsman and competitor, but Mickelson was able to win and win well, whilst showing class and a charm that warms many fans to him.
Good advert for the HEX black, which I have lost one of already, but will be keeping the others for medals in the better months. Don't think I'll have quite the same results as big Phil though!

If he maintains this sort of form, he will surely be tough to beat at his beloved Augusta?

Second that Andy, if he can keep his putting together he stands a great chance.

Why he bothered messing around with the Odyssey Sabertooth belly at the end of last year, I have no idea. I really would love to know why he did that. He has such a pure putting stroke with that famous forward press of his.

But the blade is back and I have to say, looked better than ever on Sunday. He is surely primed for a massive season. Then again, we've heard that one before.

His misses is very tidy. I was watching shellby's golf program on sky last night. She must have been ten years younger then. She looks better now! What a cracker , sod the golf

It was a very impressive round, but he holed a couple of monster par putts that on any other day wouldn't have gone in. Some days you're the pigeon, some days you're the statue. But this is why Mickelson has won majors, over the piece he can putt well. Westwood, for example, can't, which is why he probably won't bag a big one.

40 career wins now for Mickelson, same as Tom Watson. And 4 majors in the Tiger era.... tells you he is one of the greats.

Shows far far Tiger has dropped, in years gone by Tiger would have probably out scored Mickelson but he was completely outclassed.  Can he still put 4 rounds together???
