Hot news: From the left, Mizuno's latest MX-700 driver, fairway metal and hybrid

WHILE we're all suffering a period of cool weather, preventing many of us from venturing out to keep our golf skills ticking over, the race is hotting up to provide new clubs to tempt us into the shops.

And Mizuno is turning up the heat on its rivals with the launch announcement - ahead of next week's PGA Merchandise trade show in Orlando - of the MX-700 driver due to be delivered into the UK in mid-February. It's also releasing MX-700 fairway metals and hybrids.

The powerful 'hot metal' driver, says Mizuno, is likely to appeal to a wide range of players 'through its forgiving nature and high ball speed', using new face materials.

The MX-700 driver takes the best traits of its predecessor the MX-560 – a high penetrating ball flight and forgiveness - and adds sharper streamlined looks and a 'high energy' Ti9 face insert to deliver 'longer drives' with 'serious impact thump.'

The weight-saving it achieves provides a low and deep centre of gravity and a centrally located sweet spot for low spin drives and a high, penetrating ball flight, combined with less vibration and powerful sensation at impact.

The MX-700 driver will be available in in 9.5, 10.5, and 12 degree right-hand models, as well as 9.5 and 10.5 for left-handers. Prices yet to be confirmed.
