Nike reveals 2011 VR Pro driver

Every driver manufacturer is looking for that extra ingredient that sets their product apart from other brands and models. And Nike Golf believes it has found it with its latest Victory Red (VR) Pro driver which features a new 'variable compression channel' to increase speed at impact in more spots on the clubface.

Currently in the bags of Francesco Molinari, among the straightest drivers on the European Tour, and Anthony Kim, Nike says the clubs offer pros the opportunity to generate more distance from their stock shots. Nike says Nike, they are able to hit the draws, high cuts, fades and low trajectory, penetrating 'stingers' they prefer, because the wider channel and variable face thickness on the face allows them to generate more ball speed.

“These shots are not always in the centre of the face,” says Tom Stites, director of product creation at Nike Golf.  “The channel action delivers a similar ball speed as if it was hit in the centre of the face.”

The Nike VR Pro driver is the latest addition to the premium VR line, which began with the introduction of the successful Nike VR irons in November 2008 . Available in February, the driver has a pear shaped head preferred by Tour players which the makers claim allows for more weight at the point of the centre of gravity to 'deliver a hotter launch with optimal spin'.

The new adjustable clubhead also expands on Nike’s award-winning STR8-FIT face angle technology, giving players the ability to select their shot shape as well as the flexibility to dial in the look of their driver.

Priced at £360, it will be sold with the Project X shaft with regular, stiff and other custom options available.
