PING unveils i200 irons

PING has unveiled its i200 iron, boasting a new face and cavity structure for faster ball speeds, a soft feel, and increased forgiveness.

The brand has long been known to produce premium golf clubs, so a new release is serious golf news.

Promising increased distance, better feel, and more help on those mis-hits (let's be honest, unless you're Rory McIlroy we could all do with this) could these be the clubs your game has been waiting for?

“The i200 iron is engineered for golfers who want an iron with a clean look that delivers exceptional feel, distance and forgiveness while providing the trajectory control they need to play with precision.

“Bringing all these benefits into one iron required our teams to re-think how the face and cavity structure can work together to improve overall performance. The feel is amazing and the gains in forgiveness are significant for an iron this size. It’s a shot-maker’s iron by design, but it will fit a lot of golfers because it’s so easy to play. This iron will exceed their expectations in every way, especially the feel,” said John A. Solheim, PING Chairman & CEO.

A muscle-stabilising bar and deeper, longer tuning ports in the head work in cohorts with a thinner face for a more powerful feel and sound.

A soft elastomer insert allows the face to flex for more ball speeds, while also dampening vibrations. The new insert has almost doubled in size, allowing for more than three times the amount of face contact, according to PING.

A soft, 432 stainless steel head has a hydropearl chrome finish, that repels moisture for more control. The 30% thinner face, compared to the i Iron, and a new tuning port saves weight which is redistributed for more MOI and forgiveness.

Tour-inspired aesthetics, including a smooth hosel-to-face transition, minimal offset and sharp face radius, resulting in a slim look.

The soles of the i200 irons have added bounce and more contoured leading edge to help the club glide through the turf.

There are a variety of high-performance custom-shaft options available. The stock shaft is a PING AWT, which has a steeper weight progression paired with a variable step pattern to provide high trajectory, increased ball speed and stable feel in the long irons, while the short irons have a smoother feel.

KBS Tour, Dynamic Gold, NS Pro Modus 105, XP 95, and Project X are all available at no upcharge.

Price: £120 per club (steel) £130 per club (graphite)
