Srixon aims to build on its claim as the top-selling two-piece ball in golf (the AD333) by introducing the latest in its series of Z-series balls - the three-piece Z-Star and Z-StarX both of which will be available in the UK from February 1.

Henrik Stenson and Tim Clark used Z-Star balls to win the Nedbank Challenge and Australian Open respectively and World No.5 Vijay Singh has signed to use the ball for the foreseeable future.

The Z-Star and Z-StarX use ultra thin urethane technology, a large core and a softer cover to improve distance, spin and feel, says Srixon who have put a £44 per dozen suggested price on the balls.

One key difference is a 90 compression with the Z-Star, designed for low and mid handicap players, 'seeking Tour performance' with a combination of 'optimum distance, spin control and soft feel.' The Z-StarX has a 104 compression, for players looking for 'explosive distance and high spin performance around the greens.'

The balls also feature an Invisiseam Technology 324-dimple pattern 'to ensure uniformity across the diameter of the ball for consistent flight'. The larger, more shallow dimples ' help to reduce wind resistance for added distance,' says Srixon adding that a new coating on the urethane cover 'significantly improves spin performance from the rough, allowing players to attack pins from any type of lie.'

Other players using the Z-Star ball include Jim Furyk, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Boo Weekley and Laura Davies.

This is a pity. At £44 a dozen these will be too rich for me. I was a big fan of the Zurs ball, but will change to the AD333 now.

i wonder what these will sell for in the US? I bet it will be a darn sight less that the equivalent of £44.

I doubt they would stay at £44 a dozen for very long when you can get ProV's for £30 or less, with it being a suggested price i would presume they will come down to the £30'ish mark very quickly. I'm fairly sure that the suggested retail price for the Z-UR range was about the £40 mark, same for the Nike One range (which are also being updated for this  year!), they are suggested to be £40'ish and i'm paying £18-20 at the local pro shop.

If you are looking for more of the Z series, both URC and URS I can probably get hold of some, I am also put off by the price of the Z stars......

Why downgrade all the way to the AD333? there's still the Trispeed (£17.50 from Golmagic partner golfballs.gg) which is a 3-piece ball rather than the 2-piece AD333, and has a bit more bite around teh greens. I used them last year and liked them a lot, but bought enough Z-URSs for the coming season when the price dropped below £20, because I think they're the best ball I've ever played.

Taz

£44 a doz - don't they know there's a recession? I won't be buying 'em.

.... I won't be buying Inesis TD Tour @ 20 quid a doz either, they're now past my 1-50 per ball max - C'mon Decathlon, you've now got shelves full ... I wonder why?

you're clearly shopping in the wrong place!

Try the Z URC's or URS's£18.99 here

I bought 12 dozen ZURC for £15.99 a little while back at AG, great ball at such a tempting price, it was a no brainer.

What the hell are Decathlon playing at??? They've completely ballsed up (no pun intended) by sticking an extra £3.99 on a box!

Oh well, looks like I'll be playing Srixon's from now on... or the Callaway range is quite appealling.
