Gregory Bourdy - Titleist/FootJoy ambassador wins in Hong Kong
|
Titleist and FootJoy ambassadors, the Frenchman Gregory Bourdy and Ulster sensation Rory McIlroy, dominated the UBS Hong Kong Open, with Bourdy taking the title by two shots.
Bourdy’s 19-under par total was enough to hold off a weekend surge from McIlroy, who, despite firing closing rounds of 65 and 64 had to settle for second place - his third top five finish in successive weeks.
The result catapults him to the top of the inaugural Race to Dubai rankings - no wonder he's a player in such demand and is expected to thrill the crowds on the PGA Tour where he is due to become a familiar face. Bourdy’s victory takes him into the top-60 of the world rankings and secures his place in this week's Dubai climax.
As well as using the new Titleist MB irons, Bourdy trusted the Titleist 909D2 driver, Titleist 909F2 fairway metal, Titleist 585.H utility metal and Vokey Design Spin Milled sand and lob wedges, while McIlroy used Titleist ZM irons, Titleist 909D2 driver, 906F2 fairway metals, Vokey Design pitching wedge and Spin Milled sand and lob wedges. Both players used Scotty Cameron putters and Titleist ProV1 balls - McIlroy the x model - taking the 2009 worldwide win count for Titleist golf balls to 146.
FOOTNOTE: Bourdy also wore the latest FootJoy FJ-ICON shoes following in the wake of recent winners Ross McGowan, Lee Westwood, Ross Fisher and Ian Poulter.
