Titleist irons key to Kyle comeback

Sealed with a kiss: Stanley
Titleist 712 MB

Most players would have given up the game and thrown away their clubs after losing a three-shot lead up the last.

But not Titleist staffer Kyle Stanley, who trusted his game and equipment to banish the demons of Torrey Pines with maiden PGA Tour glory at the Phoenix Open.

In stark contrast to seven days previous, the 24-year-old American clawed back an eight-stroke deficit on runaway 54-hole leader Spencer Levin with a flawless final-round 66 that secured a narrow one-shot victory over fellow Titleist player Ben Crane.

The big-hitting American averaged 286 yards off the tee at TPC Scottsdale with his Titleist 910D3, highlighted with some scintillating final-round drives in excess of 325 yards en route to making crucial birdies at the par-5 13th and par-4 14th.

But while the big dog looked impressive, it was overshadowed by his outstanding iron play. The Washington resident, sporting Titleist MB 712 irons, finished third in greens in regulation for the week on 79.2%, including 89% on Sunday.

Titleist claims its 712 MB irons are classic muscle back forged irons that deliver looks, feel and performance for highly-skilled players. The irons feature constant blade lengths, minimal progressive offset and a thin top line for superior shot-making.

Stanley also trusted the playability and feel of the Scotty Cameron putter and Vokey Design wedge, most notably on the par-4 17th when playing the shot of the tournament to salvage par.

Now I would call them blades. If he can say it was down to his equipment that he managed to come back from giving away such a good lead. Could the opposite be said, and that it was down to his equipment that he messed up in the first place.

Thats what I was thinking Chris.  It was down to him that he lost the big lead he had, and it was also down to him that he came back and won.

Have you ever tried hitting a golf ball with your head, Chris? Not nearly as effective.

Ive seen a mate do it after a bed hole he chucked his ball in the air and headbutted it.  You could tell it hurt him but he swore that it didnt.  We were laughing our tits off.
