Review: TaylorMade Spider Blade putter

TAYLORMADE SPIDER BLADE features a putter counterbalanced with a 130g grip twice as heavy as a typical putter grip.

Counterbalancing increases the MOI of the entire club, making it 50% more stable than a traditional putter. TaylorMade Tour staff pros who helped to develop say counterbalancing makes it easier to keep the head moving on your intended path.

Looks

The white leading edge and linear alignment aid in the cavity makes alignment easy. Typical blade style, nice head shape and profile and frames the ball well. Impressive.

Feel

PureRoll Surlyn insert promotes a soft, yet solid feel and smooth roll off the face. At times, it feels a little too soft, however, and a hence a few long-range putts were a little tricky to gauge correct distance. Much heavier than a typical grip due to the 130g grip and it therefore aids good stability and a true roll.

Performance

Very solid from 6-feet and in but not quite so easy from 15-feet. The extra length in the grip aids good control and a distinct lack of twisting.

Verdict

A decent counterbalanced blade offering with outstanding twist resistance and a lovely stable stroke. A little expensive at £159 I feel but you can't fault it's performance from close range. Distance control on longer putts may take some time to bed in due to the relatively soft feel off the face.
