Summary: Wilson Ci-11 irons offer a deep cavity back design with a midsize profile, moderate top-line, and progressive offset. The more unique features of this design are the exoskeleton which pushes weight further from the face in the heel and toe of the club, a thinner face for higher CT, and a sleek black PVD finish.

Appearance:
Having got used to the darkened finish of the Adams Idea Tech V4, we were all set for what the Ci-11 had in store. Although we’re used to traditional silver irons, we can see the benefits of a darkened finish as it all but blocks out the cavity back. While it’s nice to know the cavity is there, you don’t want to have to look at it while standing over the ball. Other positives in terms of design included a relatively thin top-line, progressive offset and simple alignment aid. The slightly unusual square design of the club didn’t affect us too much but that may put some people off. 8.5

Feel: The Ci-11 providesgreat feel for a deep cavity back iron with perimeter weighting, but the sound off the face was a little muted. Some people might like that but we prefer a little more feedback like you get with the 825s. 7.5

Performance: Ball flight is the most impressive feature in the Ci-11, as the ball travels up the club face and very high. Although not the most forgiving iron we’ve ever played, there was enough to get excited about - surprising given the lack of thickness in the sole. Launching a long iron into the sky has never been made so simple and, despite its 29-degree loft, the strongest of all the 6-irons we tested, there wasn’t a great loss in terms of distance against the others in the test. 8

Verdict

The Ci-11 is an easy-to-launch iron and comes at a great price point. There’s not much offset but plenty of forgiveness to write home about. The black PVD finish with neat Wilson logo looks great in the bag. Overall, it’s a sleek, handsome club that will appeal to better ball-strikers seeking some help on those mis-hits. 24
