Stompin' Monty: No change there, then!

'Sergio matched Monty’s score but was polite enough to share his thoughts'

US Masters 2007
Monty: Not a happy Easter

Colin Montgomerie’s record at the Masters is not exactly gold-plated. He has but one top 10 in 14 years and hasn’t made the cut since 2002.

So, asked to describe his form coming into his 15th trip to Augusta, Monty thought out loud: “How do I describe my Masters form?” He paused then filled the silence. “It’s shit,” he snapped. “That’s what it is.”

And with that he turned and stomped off. Nice.

It’s a pity he can’t be tricked into thinking he’s at the Ryder Cup. Maybe that was Bernhard Langer’s thinking, too. Which is perhaps how these former European team fourball partners arrived on the first tee wearing visas and matching baby blue jumpers.

But fast-playing Monty must have been irritated to be paired with the slow-moving German and Rich Beem. It won’t have gone unnoticed that he was the only non-major winner in this first round threeball. Someone in the championship committee clearly has a devilish sense of humour.

And that's more than can be said for Monty who posted three birdies and seven bogies in yet another unremarkable Masters performance.

Asked for his comments when he stepped out of the recorder’s hut, he scowled: “Not right now, thank you,” and stormed off. Nice.

Garcia: bearded and polite

A bearded Sergio Garcia matched Monty’s score but was polite enough to share his thoughts.

“It’s going to be a tough week and you're going to have to be patient.”

Perhaps he should tell that to Monty. Just as he was talking, Thomas Bjorn was walking past on his way from the 9th green to the 10th tee. Bjorn checked his stride briefly and pinched the Spaniard on the bottom. Nice.

Hasn't the temperament to win a major

Not in the USA he hasent, and the crowd knows it. I think he has been taunted over there a little to much by the public.
pitty!

Come on Monty

His temperament is what I like about Monty, I hope it never changes. Can't stand the players who have a bad round and say "it was tough but it was fun out there"

Mind you at least he isn't talking about his age nowadays, not with people like Vijay still notching up wins, and considering the age of some of those who did make the cut last week.

I think if I played a round with him, I could knock six shots off his score :0)

Love or Hate Monty ? There are not enough characters on the golf scene anymore. Yes Poulter is a bit of an eccentric with his fashion sense or some would say the lack of it.

Monty just hates playing badly and it is a pity he has never won a major yet, but so what he has a wonderful record. His heart is in his face and he exposes himself to the world.

As for the Americans, individually wonderful people, as a Nation they ought to keep their noses out of others business. It is those power hungry politicians, estate agents, city people and lawyers that mess things up.

Whilst I have never met him (unfortunately) he is a wonderful speaker off course and enjoys a laugh like the rest of us. I would think he would be excellent company off duty.

not into comparing nations myself, but Monty does have a far better set of man boobs than Phil Mickelson or Tim Herron!
