 Monty: Not a happy Easter
|
Colin Montgomerie’s record at the Masters is not exactly gold-plated. He has but one top 10 in 14 years and hasn’t made the cut since 2002.
So, asked to describe his form coming into his 15th trip to Augusta, Monty thought out loud: “How do I describe my Masters form?” He paused then filled the silence. “It’s shit,” he snapped. “That’s what it is.”
And with that he turned and stomped off. Nice.
It’s a pity he can’t be tricked into thinking he’s at the Ryder Cup. Maybe that was Bernhard Langer’s thinking, too. Which is perhaps how these former European team fourball partners
arrived on the first tee wearing visas and matching baby blue jumpers.
But fast-playing Monty must have been irritated to be paired with the slow-moving German and Rich Beem. It won’t have gone unnoticed that he was the only non-major winner in this first round threeball.
Someone in the championship committee clearly has a devilish sense of humour.
And that's more than can be said for Monty who posted three birdies and seven bogies in yet another unremarkable Masters performance.
Asked for his comments when he stepped out of the recorder’s hut, he scowled: “Not right now, thank you,” and stormed off. Nice.
