Monday had the misfortune to play at Leen Valley course one of the Jack Barker Centres. It is possibly the worst kept course I have played at and want to complain. Does anyone have an address for the parent company? Did a quick Google but no success.

Derek, how about posting a review. It might save a fellow GM member from making a mistake!

I think JB has a course close to me, it is called Rother Valley,Killamarsh nr sheffield. That was not in great shape last time i played it. Steered clear since then. Even the driving range was expensive and had no decent tees.

Jack Barker also run Keele Golf Course in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire.
What should be potentially one of the best courses in the area has been criminally neglected by Jack Barker, to the point where membership has dropped from almost 500 to under 150.
The fairways and greens only seem to be cut once a week during the height of summer, the greens, though better and flatter than they were a couple of months ago are still a lottery and the rough is overgrown to the point where you are losing ball after ball.
It seems to be very hard to contact Jack Barker directly, and the only course for members of Keele has been to contact the local newspaper who ran a damning article a couple of months ago. Surprise, surprise, within a few days, a JCB digger had turned up and several trenches have now been dug to aid with drainage.
A couple of summers ago, I took a relative from the United States to play the course, and he was quite impressed and wanted to play again when he visited England just recently. To be honest, I was embarrassed to take him to Keele.

Jack Barker have recently taken over the Havering municipal course at Risebridge, which is near Romford in Essex. It was in a terrible state, and they were improving it just a bit, but now it's all been churned up by the buggies that they are hiring out, irrespective of ground and weather conditions. Although some commitment to doing some work about the place was evident, this now seems to have dropped off, and I am not optimistic for the future of this course.

Me smell a rat, perhaps he's going to turn them into housing estates once the members have left!

The above address in Milton Keynes is probably an accountant's offices or similar as there are many companies registered there. However, the jackbarker.co.uk domain name is registered to the nearby Wavendon Golf Centre, one of the JB centres, so I'd suggest you start there.

We have also wondered if there was an ulterior motive behind all of this. Certainly at Risebridge there is a lot of land next to the golf course, in addition to the course itself. It does make you think.

I too have played Rother Vally, one of Jack Barkers centres, and while the course can get muddy in the winter, it does seem to play well for the rest of the year. If it rains they take the buggies off, and end to keep it in good shape. What does damage the course are the people who play it, and do not repair the damge they make (pitch marks divots). These people are probably the same people who play the course and moan because the greens have pitch marks in them. We must remember to repair damage as we may land in our own divot the week after.

I worked for Jack Barker for a short time and i can tell you that all they are interested in is money. The topmanagment has no training in greenkeeping! they make all there money for soil dumping, they make it sound like a good thing and the money they make will go back into the golf couse but it never dose. when they have drained every last penny out of a place it will then be sold for houseing. avoid JACK BARKER's golf course at all costs if you lovethe game

Keele is in really bad nick at the moment but it's a darn sight better than Greenway Hall and Goldenhill. Two other local (North Staffs) courses owned by - you've guessed it Jack Barker.
Land fill - that's all they buys course for.

It's a shame to see the many negative comments re-Jack Barker. I've played Wavendon quite regularly over the past 4 years and always found it to be in good condition. Yes they should enforce more rigorous trolley and buggie bans in Winter, but the comments on here suprise me. I havent played the other courses mentioned so cant comment on them specifically. Sadly Wavendon does seem to attract lots of hackers who have little or no consideraton for course care. I guess thats what happens when you offer such competitively priced golf.

Jack Barkers Hucknall course is worth playing at the moment. Weekdays two players and a buggy for just £25. Course in pretty good condition.
