NV65 stiff at the moment but i hate the NV. Have a UST V2 x flex on the way for Shaun to install

I use a Fujikura 757 X-Stiff in a Titleist 983K bore through at 45.5", effectively meaning it plays XX-Stiff (if you use CPM as a general guide).

Questions like this are a waste of space imo, what do you learn by finding out what flex we play?
I don't want to 'learn' anything. I'm just curious as to what people use. Is that ok with you?
I'm considering getting a first proper driver - is regular flex a fair bet?
Just changed my driver flex, to 905T 8.5* X flex, plays around XX flex. Play reg flex in all my other clubs. If you can find the right shaft there really is something in the concept of using the stiffest driver shaft that you can load. Dispertion is so much tighter, and loss of length is minimal.
Tin Pot - go to a range shop and try some out. Reg flex is prolly ok for you but do test some. Go by your own experience at seeing how they perform for you more than what others experiences are, we all swing differently!

Its an open forum and people are allowed to ask these questions if they want. There is no need for you to post what you did so if there is a thread you think is a 'waste of space' then please do not post. You only bring confrontation

 @Creosote
I was just reading (yes TG I know, I know) about flex, they talked about getting your swing analysed, but also that hooking would be indicative of needing a stiffer shaft*, and slicing indicating less stiffness*. My cheapo club is definitely steel so I'm encouraged that any flex will decrase my slice...
I've asked this before but are there shops that will 'analyse' you swing?
*I'm glad my wife doesn't read these posts.

Tin Pot - its a bit of an old wives tale all this hook with too weak a shaft etc. In my own experience a too weak a shaft will produce almost random shot results, the ball can go anywhere, whereas a too stout a shaft will nearly always produce a low right shot. I can hit the wife's ladies flex shaft clubs fine, but every now and then will get some strange shot shape that wasnt a result of a bad swing.
Its usually touted to use the whippiest driver shaft you can control. On the logic that the more whip in the shaft will give more kick at impact and produce a longer drive. However, my own experiments are leading me to believe the opposite, that one should use the stoutest shaft that you can get airborne and straight.
Flex will not decrease your slice. Fixing your swing will! Dont mess with shafts for swing fixes. Have a few lessons, get your swing sorted, practise a while to stabilise it, then go and try drivers and shafts.

 I disagree with creosote again.
To soft a shaft will cause slices. To stiff a shaft will cause hooks. Not so good golfers will be able to do both with either shaft.
Its the other way round in my experience Brian. To stiff and you can't square it,so you slice. If you are crap you might do that anyway,so I am talking about at least an average swing.
Well, I disagree with you Brian.
If a shaft is to stiff, that means the head will lag behind and hit the ball with a open face.
Hmm, i speak from my own experience. My chs is high.
Had a regular shaft, when i caught it well it faded, 90% was a slice. I could not make the ball finish down the left side, the left side was out of play (safe).
Bought a stiff, a draw appeared right away. Now 95% draw, 3% fade 2% draw into the trees.
Alex the more flex in the shaft the more it will load (bend) during the downswing. If the shaft is bending the clubhead will be open not closed.
Worm you address the ball with the clubhead square? Yet with a stiff shaft you can not square it, producing a slice. This makes no sense to me. Something is not right. Maybe your swing is so fast you need an xx stiff.
Lol whatever Brian, but I think you'll find that most people on here have the same theory as me.
'Had a regular shaft, when i caught it well it faded, 90% was a slice. I could not make the ball finish down the left side, the left side was out of play (safe).'
Ever considered that it may be technique, not the club.
Oh no, I forgot, you're perfect, so it's definitely not your technique.
Okay, in reference to my other thread I was planning on getting a relatively cheap club (one of the £60ish offers around) before starting lessons. Maybe it'll need tweaking afterwards but I might still do that.
- The 8.5* stiff r510 is not on the list for consideration though!

 Alex is bang on
look at the driver head when it comes down the grip and the head will be infront of the middle of the shaft, if the shaft is too stiff for your swing spedd you will slice. i didn't believe it at first either.
i think they mention this in this months Today's Golfer mag

 Brian
I didn't say I addressed the ball with a closed face, why did you make that assumption? If the shaft is too stiff it will cause a slice, but as Alex says 'whatever',if this didn't happen for you then who are we to argue. But for the vast majoity of golfers to stiff flex will cause a slice, not a hook,as in your case.
I swing a driver fast enough for an xstiff, but I like stiff with a driver, helps me get a draw.
