Call me Mr Sceptic but there's new GM members posting here praising these devices having never posted on any other topics. BoB and MacAl excepted.

PC I asked the same question about it being R&A approved. I am told it is. Simply becasue it gives distance only. some of these other devices that you can train to recommend a club to you are not approved. well that is what my pro tells me. also the Bushnell that gives elevation etc is not approved. apparently to use it in comp it needs to give DISTANCE ONLY. Apparenlty it is one thing for Pro golfers who can have a caddy tell em how many times to breath and one things for a Am!!

Frank, I know what you mean but it's the net afterall, full of sheisters.

An update, I used it for the second time today at another course and it really is worth it for me. Despite not having a great ball striking or putting day I still managed 34 points. Did I really need it? probably not as the course was one where they had put in a sprinkler system and also added distances to all the sprinklers. However this did allow me to check accuracy and it was spot on. Personally I enjoy just glancing at a screen rather than hunting for a sprinkler head.

In your opinion Al, Does it speed up play?
Show/hide user stats
BoB, yes and no, yes it enables me to play faster but I am still limited by the pace of play of others. As the R&A research found, the main cause of slow play is overloaded courses. However, assuming a clear run and all else being equal, then a golfer with GPS will be faster than a golfer who is obtaining yardages by pacing etc. Sadly this will often mean you just have less to do whilst waiting for fairway or green to clear.

So,

Both gone..The Skycaddie to a new owner and a full refund against the Sureshot due to R&A compliance issues.

Hang on a Mo!!!!!!

"a full refund against the Sureshot due to R&A compliance issues"??????????????

They must be sh**tting themselves waiting for a deluge of returned Surshots?
Show/hide user stats
What's the compliance issue with the sureshot?
Show/hide user stats
Isn't the Sureshot, the one that suggests which club to use?

You are not permitted to use any rangefinder that gives any more information than yardage even if you disable the function.

I think that means that most GPS units will be banned and the Bushnell that gives gradients.

If the rule change is implimented it will mean more policing of the tee on comp day, imagine, you cant use your driver or your GPS system, what a waste of £500, unless of course you have made the right purchases! which are........????
