Sham, is there any way you could post your swing on Youtube or another video hosting site? There are just too many things that could be happening.

Well Green.. the most common thing I see is players setting up with their weight on their toes or simply too far away.

"It is possible for the club to be too flat and thus digging the toe of the club into the ground early. That doesn't mean it IS the reason, but it is a possible reason."

Ringer

Don't you mean to upright? ie the heel digs in and flicks the toe round. If the toe digs in,ist to upright surely? The club therefore needs flattening. If its to upright the toe digs in and the heel comes round, causing pushes off the heel.Thats the way I've always understood anyway.A sure sign of clubs to flat is a pull

If a club is to flat, the toe will dig in, leaving face open. To upright gives a pull.

At address you should be able to slide a 10p about a third of the way under sole from the toe end, as when you swing shaft flexs down as well as lag.

Best way is at the range with some tape on sole, hit a few balls and see where the wear patch is, should be in the middle. This way you measure the dymanic position.

My clubs have been fitted at 4* more upright, due to my swing faults, when the swing gets back on plane will get the lie re checked.

The question was whether or not the lie angle can cause the shot to be on the TOE of the club. Too flat will have the toe dig into the ground and cause the club to twist as if the ball was struck on the toe.

Hmmmmm,I have always understood it to be the other way round. To flat the toe digs in and the heel comes round and you hit a shot out right

So in this case,it would be to upright in my mind,ie the heel digs in and the toe comes in to quick as a result, and you get a pull as oldschool says, thast all I meant

Thats how Ive always understood it anyway

Wormburner... I think you're misreading because you repeated almost exactly what I stated. Too flat makes the toe dig into the ground. By doing so it twists the club in your hands as if you hit the BALL on the toe.

Understand that this does NOT necessarily cause the ball to go right or left. The ball is usually gone before the club even makes contact with the ground. But it will feel like the ball was toed since the toe did hit the ground first and twisted the club AFTER the ball left the face.

green seeker:

It's a sign that you're striking the ball very close to the bottom of your swing arc. I would imagine you either play the ball fairly far forward or you have a bit of a casting motion.

Ringer,so you dont think it could be the lie of the clubs?

green seeker: Yes it could, but I would have to actually see in order to know.

Ringer, i just tested the irons at my club on an impact board and pro said they were 2 deg flat on average for me,according to results. I know it could also be partly my swing, but ill getr the lies right first, re-test once altered and then look at the swing yeh??

Ringer, any drills to stop casting, i thin the ball quite regularly?
Show/hide user stats
I feel as if im coming out of the shot quite regularly :(

Make sure you aren't set up on your heels or toes. Then make sure you stay tilted over the ball as you release the club.

HI Ringer, still thinning the ball quite a bit, id say 1 in 3 shots! Can you recommend any good drills to work on to prevent this. thx

Hi Ringer

A clip of my swing, what is the most important thing to work on?

Where does the upright follow through come from? not clearing the hips?

Cheers in advance.

Hi Ringer, have you got any advice on how to stop my automatic death grip in the downswing from kicking in, I manage to keep arms and hands soft in the backswing but the white knuckle grip is causing me to leave the face open at impact.

On the odd occasion I do manage to keep it soft I hit good long shots, I'm sick of playing from way right of the target and having to scramble, everything is fine till I start down. (stil not managed to video my swing yet)
