I played in the District Alliance comp yesterday, and once again hit the DCT very well, but one of the betterball we were playing with, a pro, hit the ball like I've never seen before.he was using a Callaway FT5 with a Fujikura 360 shaft. On the last, (328yds) he waited for the green to clear as the strong wind was off our backs, (we three had all drove off) as we walked towards the hole, he said there's mine in the middle of the green, I thought I'm sure you were a bit left of that. When we got there I'm glad to say it was my ball on the green, about 16 foot from the hole, the pro's ball was short, but would you believe I three putted for a four, on ropey greens mind you.

Good work Rico. What was his reaction -you must have got lucky? we have an island green dog leg par 4 which you can have a go at with the wind behind but there is a danger of going right through into the water at the back.It is 260 odd yard carry and then another 25 or so onto the green.last week wind behind I had to swing soft on my drive and just push one down there .Pitched into the bank and popped up just short .the other two had a lash and both finished short right.Longest driver I have ever hit bar none.

What I maybe should have said was, on this hole it dips down out of site around about where a good drive lands, and there are undulations going across, my ball must have hit a downslope and shot forward to get the extra yards. I don't hit a bad ball, but I'm not quite that far I'm afraid. I know this is a driver topic, but about course management, With OOB all down the right, and trees on the left, someone else might have took a 5 iron off the tee, then a wedge, and single putted for a three maybe.

Nice one Rico. Reaction to the Geek with people I meet is almost always the same, especially from the "I've got a Callaway" types. 1) What's that? Never heard of it. I've got a Callaway. 2) Goes alright though doesn't it? I've got a Callaway. Oh it hasn't gone as far as yours! 3) Actually that is quite nice isn't it? Can I have a go with it? 4) That is ****ing amazing! How much did you pay for it? 5) HOW ****ING MUCH??? 6) Where can I get one?

Spot on there Magic, you can see the look on their faces when they see the word GEEK. I mean the very fact that they are interested in the driver tells you something. I couldn't care less what equipment any fellow golfer uses, unless it appears useful to my needs. My Bang O Matic fairway wood also went super as well, in a very strong wind, I was able to control my shots with relative ease, hitting the middle of the green a few times when needed. My partners were all using their megabucks TM, Callaways, Ping etc etc, but none went much, if any, better than my very good value for money club. Right that's the easy part of the game out of the way, now I'm going to spend a couple of hours on the putting green, after yesterday's miserable performance from quite short distances.

played with a scratch player on the weekend, he was impressed that I as a 19 handicapper was right up there with him or past him. He had a go with it on one hole after he had hit his G10 and it went around the same distance. Not much in it he said, mines a 12 degree though, I pointed out been measuring my drives on google earth, with no roll to speak off on a clay bound course, I have been averaging 190 uphill against the wind and 240 downhill with a best of 280 wind assisted. Considering I have to use a 5 iron to get 150 yards, you can tell I am not the longest hitter Whats even better is that 9 out of 10 are straight, even though my strike pattern seems to be more towards the heel

V Good magic.I have played with the same group for years and I now enjoy the bit where I walk up the hole to their balls and have to wait for them to play before continuing on to my ball.Early days yet but rock and roll.Looks fantastic for the weekend BTW

Afernoon Dyna, Yes, you're right - and I have to take my daughter (Little Miss Magice) out to practice for the Adult/Junior comp at our club. Life's so tough sometimes! Taking her to be fitted for her new clubs next week - should be interesting. Geek 3 wood working brilliantly at the range the other night, but the acid test will be the first full round this weekend. Watch this space for a review on Monday. About time for a Board day out, wouldn't you say? Boa - get on the case!! (Even more !!)

Magic, Hi! Please give my regards to your charming daughter. If I may suggest it Miss Magicale suits her well! I will be in touch regarding a GM day out. Best wishes Boa
Boa, Little Miss M. is currently awaiting a re-arrangement of our match with you as her partner! Also, she has been entered by the club in the Hunter Foursomes comp and this year will be a big step up for her, we hope. Of course, new pink clubs will make all the difference to her game........ Board day out is a fantastic idea. You are the man to organise it!

Magic PINK seems to be a fashionable colour. Ian Poulter appears to be championing it on behalf of the male sex The picture of him becomingly?? shrouded by his pink/black Cobra Tour bag on the front cover of Golf World had exactly the OPPOSITE of the desired effect. However, DONT please mention Poulter to Miss Magicale. It might give her a bad impression of male golfers at too early an age

No probs Boa. She certainly won't be seeing me wearing pink any time soon..... BTW, another outing with the Geek 3wood at the weekend. Warming to it now. The "reliably consistent fade off the deck" shot is in the bag now and I had putts for a 4 on each of the par 5's that Ms. M and I played. Admittedly 2 were middle length putts that I was glad to lag up dead, but I should have nailed a third. Still, one under my handicap for the first 13 holes so not too bad.

gooday gents count me in for a day out. I struggled a bit on Saturday(fantastic weather)with the driver and leaked three out of the first four out to the right costing a couple of bogeys but the answer seems to be to go down the grip about an inch and bingo!.Still not sure the shaft isnt a bit stiff though.
Going back to my earlier post on 8/02, that three putt on the last cost us dearly, as we finished runners up on a back six countback. Doooohhhhh!!!!! My new shaft has just arrived, but after the way I hit the DCT yesterday, I would be a fool to even think about changing at the moment. I might as well look out for a 10.5* head that's going at a reasonable price and have a back up.
What shaft you got in there, Dyna? In the end I had the NV65 in stiff and it suits me fine, but for the fairway wood I have the NV75 in reg which plays firm enough to keep it on line while still being able to get the ball up in the air OK. I don't have any ego on this, so none of that "oh I'm so strong, I only play stiff shafts" nonesense from Magic - the only answer is to find out what suits and go with that and to be aware that one man(ufacturer)'s stiff is another's regular, there IS no standard.

Have you seen the actual driving distance thread gypsy rico?

Average Two, I've just had a look at the thread and found it very interesting to say the least, and I responded but changed my mind thinking what's the point, after all the support from the obviously short hitters. It was obvious to me that you were suggesting I'm a liar, but I can assure you that what I said in my previous post was very accurate. I said I drove the 328yds last green, wind assisted, and possibly hitting a down slope. I was playing with a professional, a 2 and a 4 handicap, they all witnessed it, are you suggesting the markers stones are in the wrong positions, or they have brought the green forward maybe. I think you have taught me a lesson though, in the future I will just see what I can learn from the good people on this forum, and definately not make any more comments for fear of being labelled a liar, which I can assure you that, I am not.
I have the NV65 Regular but am finding it almost impossible to get the ball moving right to left(draw) if needed. Its not that I want to hit a draw for the sake of it but we have probably three or four holes where it is desirable from a course management point of view. However three days off work now so once I have done the obligatory cinema/tenpin I will be on the course.
