Anyone used a Geek Driver? Are they as good as claimed? Which have you used/seen?

Steve
I bought a Geek DCT from Big Hit golf a couple of weeks ago.
My old driver was a TM R5 dual 10.5 degree. I was quite consistent with the TM as its very forgiving, but I was hitting it very high with consequent loss of distance, and also developed a tendency to pull it left when trying to hit it hard. I went for a swing analysis on a launch monitor and got some recommendations on shaft and loft etc, then thought for £130 what did I have to lose, and bought the Geek on the basis of positive reviews placed elsewhere on GM. I bought the 9 degree model with a stiff Aldila NV shaft. Took it out on the range a few times and then on the course - it hit the ball very low (as I had been warned) and the 9 degree was a little bit too much for me to handle. Geoff at Big Hit golf was great, and I swapped it for a 10.5 degree with the same shaft.
Have now played 2 rounds with it and i'm very happy. for the same loft as my old TM, I am hitting the ball with a much more penetrating flight, more carry and significantly more roll, which is what the DCT is claimed to produce. I can certainly vouch for that.

I'm a serial club buyer, I've had Wilson driver, 3 Taylormades (Burner 860, R580, and the R5) and a Cobra 414 Comp. and from my experience, the quality of the Geek is as good or better than any of them , you also get a top quality shaft for your money, and the head has a lifetime guarantee. Performance is great, customer service from Big Hit golf was A1.
The only downside I can see is that there probably isn't much of a resale market because of the lack of a big name brand. But this won't affect me because I don't now anticipate changing drivers any time soon!! I'm seriously considering investing in the 3 wood with similar spec etc, because I'm that pleased with it!

So you could say this is a positive review.

Cheers Moppy and Paul. I think Geek will be the way forward for me. I now will just have to choose between the DCT or Failsafe

If you're going to order from Big Hit golf I'd give Geoff a call and discuss with him. He's very helpful.

I emailed bighitoglf last night and they replied today saying the main man is away, so i presume thats Geoff. I have asked them to pass on my email and i await his reply when he gets back.

Good luck.
remember to post a review if and when you've bought one. or on second thoughts perhaps its better to keep the secret...

ps the headcover is dead cool - it opens right up the back and when closed it is held by internal magnets. I'd given up using headcovers for my woods as I got peed off fighting with them trying to get the heads back in - with the Geek this is simple. I think they've patented the headcover design itself.

Reviews do seem very good on the clubs. I found one for the fail safe 2 and that seems awesome, so now i really am stuck which one to get.

I too have been impressed with the geek reviews and purchased a DCT 10.5 with a harrison striper stiff a few weeks ago. Whilst i'm very impressed with the quality of the club, i cant hit it straight or high. My friend who is 72 and doesn't swing as fast, can hit it brilliantly. My assumption is the shaft is too whippy for me. Unfortunately Geoff has only offered to cut down the shaft if i cover the postage costs. And there lies the problem. Ther's no guarantee that Geoff can accurately assess your requirements without actually seeing you hit a ball. This isn't a dig at bighitgolf, just a friendly warning that you won't neccessarilly create the right spec for your swing by an email or telephone call.
i'm gutted as i had bragged about how good this club was going to be and how cheap in comparison they were to all usual brands. Everyone at the club now has the impression that geek are rubbish and that is obviously untrue.
So the R7 is back in the bag and i have a great looking club gathering dust in the cupboard. Anyone want to swap a fairly new driver for the geek?

Oh dear Nigel.
As I said earlier Geoff was great for me, but then the 9 degree he let me try was taped up as a demo and I took very good care of it.
I also had to pay the postage to return the club, and for the new one to be sent - but I don't really think that's unreasonable.

Your point is a good one though and that's the risk you take when you buy anything off spec. I'd really recommend people go and get a good analysis of their driver swing done by a pro with launch monitor etc, and try out different clubs to get an idea of what will suit. If you know your spec, component clubs are an absolute steal and great value.
But no point paying half price for something you don't want - that's a woman's prerogative!!!

Well im currently playing with an old driver of my dads Callaway Big Bertha Warbird 10 (few years old). So whatever i get is going to be an improvement i imagine.

Steve,

I'm on the list of fans of the Geek. I happened to be in Wales on a golf trip and so had a chance to try out the DCT on a driving range (Pennard GC near Swansea). Geoff was very helpful and friendly, and on the basis of sending him an e-mail first with my specs from a previous fitting and stating what I was looking for, he provided what turned out to be absolutely right for me. However, I admit that I probably wouldn't have bought without trying. He brought along a couple of clubs with different lofts/shafts but turned out to be right on the money with his first idea of what would do the job, and I was sold pretty much after the second ball I hit.

Please be aware that I had the DCT for a specific reason - to bring down a high ball flight. I think that the Failsafe is more for a higher flight with lots of carry, whereas the DCT flight is more penetrating with lots of roll. So it depends on what you want and how you play. Good luck.

Haw about treating yourself to a day trip to Wales, try the Geek and play somewhere nice (there's lots of choice, believe me) into the bargain?

I'm a 3 handicapper,last 4 drivers,510TP,983E,905R and 425TP

The Geek is the best of the lot for my game.Suited to the right shaft its a beast. You need more loft than you are used to,its a low spinning head,I have the 10.5 but plays like a 9.5.

The trajectory as stated above is penetrting, you need the right shaft and enough swingspeed r you may be hitting worms.

Didn't I offer to fit a different shaft NV65 stiff or Graphite Design YS6+ stiff if you paid the upgrade cost and postage? I can't do the GD YS6+ now but the NVS65 stiff or the VS Proto stiff come in Monday.

Golfmagic members get £20 off the DCT so you are in pocket! The length of the driver you had was 46" so there is room to shorten it. The last thing we want are people with clubs they can't hit.

Geoff,

i fully appreciate your offer to change the existing shaft to ensure i have a club i can hit. however my point of getting fitted for a club simply by conversation doesnt always work and thats the message i was trying to convey. i fully intend to take you up on your offer but not until i have a session on a launch monitor this week and understand a bit more about my swing which is probably what i should have done originally. i really want to make this driver work as i truly believe the service, quality of materials and value of the driver i purchased from you is sooo much better than any named brand we can buy from the stores.
Was out yesterday still trying to get some sort of swing i could use with it but it really is difficult to stop it slicing right when i swing normally, wheras my TM r7 knocks it high and long down the middle.
thanks for the offer and i'll be in touch later this week. Once i'm booming them down the middle with the adjusted shaft i'll post again.

Guys,

Just to let you know without sounding like a Geek commercial that I now have the 3 wood and after a bit of a growing in period, would recommend it every bit as highly as the driver.  And this from a man who reviewed my Taylor Made R5 as "everything a fariway wood should be" - well, granted the TM is a bit longer off the tee but the Geek is better off the deck, out of the rough and even from scuzzy lies.  It's not bad off a peg either and I'm growing to love it.

Once again Geoff's reckoning of what would suit me was spot on the money, even though it wasn't necessarily what I would have chosen.  Admittedly he's seen the lurch that passes for my swing - but either way I can do nothing but recommend this club, especially at the price.

I bought a FailSafe2 with every wish to want to love it (after reading rave reviews and feedback on USA forums, plus from our own GM fan-club like Boa and MagicPlusfours etc) - and after trying various shafts I had to admit it didn't work for me. Poor feel, poor distance. The mighty Sumo easily saw off the new pretender (and rocks on after a solid 13mths of me trying to find something to beat it).

That many people can't be wrong about the Geeks I guess. But I was disappointed with it and disappointed with the price I got for it, which is possibly the biggest potential downfall - secondhand prices (and finding a buyer!).

I still have a Geek DCT 3w in the bag, and the only thing likely to displace it is a Bang (an eralier gift to the golfing world from Steve Almo), so I don't have a total downer on his products. But do be careful.

The Geeks are very fussy with shafts imo, they have a high cog and are not for everyone, you really do need swingspeed to use them well.  I still have one, and a Bang 460 and an SMT Encore, they are get used in equal measure. I love my Geek DCT 3 wood, with an Acculuanch 80, that will never leave the bag
