I use the brush tee (orange) and love them, past tees of choice were the lift tees, (i found these too hard, especially for irons shots on Par 3s), but ok for driving..

i Noticed when the bbc was showing people tee off using their special slow motion swing cam, everyone of the pros was just using the basic wooden tee?

why is this?

Are we all being duped into buying expensive tees, that dont make any difference.. (placebo?)

I'd say so!

I like a tee with a mark so as they go in to the same depth every time otherwise am not fussed what I use.

I never use anything other than a plain wooden tee, never seem the point point (or fell for the hype) of these fancy ones.

I too use the orange brush tee get same height every time and they seem to stay in the ground most times and last a few months. So no i dont think they are a gimmick but I dont think they give me any distance advantage over a wooden tee. I just like them and think they are value for money.

Don't know why but I only use wooden tees for my driver, just fits my eye.
On fairway woods and irons I use red/orange castles (cost pennies)

Never flet comfortable with castle tees. have no rational reason why but they just do not look right. I use the wooden tees with the red, yellow and blue markings to ensure that they are at the same height each time.

Dandy long wooden tees cost pennies but as every time I use one it breaks these pennies soon mount to pounds whereas my brush tee lasts months.

Long whites for me , but being a tight git I use other peoples cast offs when I take an iron just to sit it up at ground level.

I was given a load of brush tees and used them a couple of times then gave them all away, they just diddn't feel right

I'm in the wooden tee camp too, and also like to use old discarded broken ones for my irons and fairway wood tee shots.

Just thought of a time a couple of years back,One of my friends had a 25th wedding aniversary at selsdon park near croydon. On the morning after it was 18 holes at the crack of dawn (as you do with a thick head). In front of us were a group of Japs and as they teed off they were all clapping and shouting goood sot, goood sot , One of them just about made it past the ladies and on reaching his ball teed it up again, followed by shouts of gooood sot ,goood sot as they walked down the fairway we could see them all teeing up their balls for every shot followed by loads of clapping and shouting,In the bar after I asked them what the score was with teeing up the balls and they said it was .winter wules!

Most of these things are just gimmicks I am sure. If I received the "extra 10 yards" distance that my driver/tee/ball/glove/soft spikes etc offered me I would be driving out the back of 600 yard par 5s.

Having said that; most of it is in the mind. I use blue castle tees for my 3 wood, red for my rescue clubs, orange for my irons and lift tees for my driver, why ? Because I have hit some very good shot off each and in my head I think that the tee has something to do with it. I know in my heart that it is all bull but like most of us cannot help myself, which is why all these products sell, they pray on our insecurities.

I use the brush tees because I like them and they last for ages but I have no illusions they give me more distance, and I have never seen them advertised as giving more distance. (I may be wrong here) Surely if they gave you more distance the R & A would ban them

When they say they add 10 yards, They are talking less friction with the driver than a standard Tee..

I found some little plastic tees that i use for Par 3`s if the club makes contact with them they just break, i Love them to bits! (I bought thousands of them)

I like the Brush tees for the resilience more than anything else.. but like all good things they only last so long til the bristles fall out and it takes you 5 minutes to get the ball to balance on them... much to the annoyance of your playing buddies!

Why not go really old school and use a small pyramid of sand to tee your ball on? When I first played in the early seventies, there were a couple of old boys at my club who still did this.

Don't get me wrong I love the gimmicks !

I agree that the resilience of the brush tees, lift tees etc is excellent (I used to smash a wooden tee every drive) and the ability to regulate the height is a boon; but it bugs the hell out of me that I seem to have more golf toys than ability.

Before someone says I should stop wasting my money on toys and take some lessons, I know they are right, I just cannot help myself.

If you select the right length wooden tee they do not break every time. I regularly have a tee that lasts a whole round.

If you use one that is not too long and only put it into the ground a little bit, they just pop out of the ground. Mine are often battered to bits around the top before the shaft breaks.

Gordon, I break the blinkin things every time as well!!
Not disputing the price or if they work, just the wooden ones suit my eye thats all.

Dandy every one to there own choice I love my brush tees and dont think there a gimmick. My doubles partner uses wooden tees and gets hundreds of them cheap off the internet but as I say every one to their own.
