This is a recent swing i filmed. Anyone have any advice?

Yes, Give up!

Seriously, it looks very good. What's your handicap?

If I was being nick picky you don't look like you are quite getting enough weight transference onto your right side on the backswing. But you get through the ball really well.

Do you have any problems? slice? hook?

To me your stance looks a little narrow, other than that it looks good

u cant really tell much from a face on video imo. better off with a down the line view.

the one thing i spotted straight away is u straighten ur right leg on the backswing. this has the efect of raising and lowering into the ball. but i cant be sure as i need a side on view. other than that at first glance from that view it looks very nice.

Thanks guys. I should film one with a driver as my biggest problem is I get very handsy and pull hook a lot. This is a down the line one.

yeh looks good if anything a tad closed on take away might be making you come over the ball on the way back but thats just nick picking ,you gunna tell us your handicap or wot i recon about ten ,also if its mostly the driver you hook wot driver/shaft you got.

Timing and extension through the ball are great, you can play

If you are hooking with the longer clubs try extending your left thumb further down the shaft, it helps to limit the wrist cock and wrist action.

Nice simple compact swing, great impact position

A nice compact swing. Looks very good to me.

Altough handicap is geatly effected by short game I would guess hcap to be 9.

Thanks for the positive comments guys. Creosote i will try what you suggested and let you know. I played a matchplay yesterday against a 3 h/c in the first round of sunshine masters was 4 up with 5 to play then the dreaded pull hooks came in and i could not compete ended up losing on 1st play off hole. Pretty sickening experience.

Why so reluctant about telling us your handicap or are we SUPPOSED to tell you that you look about ready to turn Pro?

I believe that it is pretty well impossible to tell someone's handicap until you see the result of that person,s shots, their short game and putting.

If I did not already KNOW how good Jim Furyk and Craig Parry are I would probably give them handicaps of 16 and 12 respectively!

QUOTE "I believe that it is pretty well impossible to tell someone's handicap until you see the result of that person,s shots, their short game and putting."

Good point. Thats why my handicap is irelavant. I just wanted advice on my full swing.

You need a "go to" shot.

May I suggest one - try lengthening that thumb, taking a 3/4 swing and just tapping it out there 200 or so yds. It wont look good, wont feel good, but if you do some work on it should give you a safe shot that you can use when under pressure.

BTW I agree, handicap is irrelevant, whole bloody game is fixated on handicaps.

great tempo, possibly do with losing a few pounds though.

Matt, the answers staring you in the face, you've got too fat and unfit and you're not as flexible or as balanced as you used to be. You also don't seem to have been putting in the practice time as much either.

As we discussed last time we played, you need effortless power not powerless effort. That has been your main flaw in recent times. I'd say your set up and take away has become a little too rigid and this is limiting you to the point where you try to compensate with hands and wrists. As Gary Walters always says, when he's playing well he's got all the time in the world to hit the ball but when not it's all a rush. I reckon a bit of training, a few pounds off and some serious work on stretching and flexibility would see you able to regain your effortless best.

For the rest of you(Boa), Matt plays off 5 and is noted for being about the longest hitter at my club. He's also a total golf nut and works on his game more than most I know. I don't think Matt has any illusions about pro golf etc but I do know that his current lack of consistency is chewing him up. Plus the fact that every time we play there is a £2 side bet and he's lagging quite a way back right now!

5 aint so bad if you have to have a handicap. Matt hits the ball real well. Just needs a safe shot. Its always amazing the co-incidence that those who work on their game the most are the best golfers, strange that.

Very nice looking swing, compact. I love these type of compact "Badds style" swings, thats what im working towards.

Creo is spot on with the safe shot, especially with trouble down the left side.

If it was me i would try and master a shot with an open stance and go for a sliding fade/slice, just when you have to stay out the left side of trouble.

I love to work on my game, yesterday could not hit it with any consistancy, 200 balls later back and neck stiff as a board, should of walked off or gone to short game. Been addicted, kept plugging away with no real result. To much practice is a killer as well.

I wish I could maintain my spine angle as well as that.

can't view the video here at work (it will no doubt set off the company internet air-raid warning if I do) so will have to wait till I get home on Thursday night to have a deckers ...

however , noting a few comments from other posts I'm wondering what  a persons build has to do with anything ?

Craig Stadler (tubby and a bit overweight , maybe ?) - Mike Weir (skinny and a bit underweight , maybe ?) - both pro golfers , both won the US Masters on a course that tests all areas of the game (driving , approach play , short irons , putting)

if you can swing a club with a good degree of repetition and the clubhead comes back to and thro' the ball as it needs to and your hands can control that clubface then what's the issue - ?   ....  over/under weight build don't really come into it

Thanks guys very good points brought up. In regards my size i am to heavy and my lack flexibilty may well be an issue.

Luckily i have won a competition in tee times, magazine which involves a full biomechanical golf related assesment my a chartered physio and a golf specific exercise programe at Hedge End golf centre nr Southampton. Also part of the prize is 4 lessons with a lady pro there. I will be featured in the magazine a before and after thing. Only problem is i don't know how i am going to stop eating the bacon and egg butties.

Thanks creosote i think i will have to settle for a go to shot even if it is only 200yrds much better than 280 in the woods.

McBludge looking forward to taking alot of money off you this year.
