Just acquired a discarded Integra Quad square 15 degree 5 wood which has a steel Nippon 850 shaft fitted. I have quite a slow swingspeed (86 mph with driver) and have difficulty in getting enough height off the fairway with the 3 wood as it is. I want to re-shaft giving graphite a try and look for some recommendations please.

V2 regular? seems to work well in both 3 and 5 MD woods

Thanks for response. Seen a V2 pulled driver shaft for £25, presume OK to use and just trim/cut to length from butt end ?

If you want it to play softer leave the tip untrimmed, if not take 1/2" off the tip. Shit shaft in my opinion and wouldn't have one in my workshop, but some people seem to like it. If you were after something a bit easier to hit the Graphite Design YS series are good value. I might have a pullout you can have if you pay the postage? I'll have to check the pullout box.

Pure Forged, I just went with what i've tried in a 3 wood i.e. 1 Also played the Proforce 75 in my 5 wood and prefer the V2 blue. Also you may be the one to ask, is there a place to find a stiffness rating chart for all the different shafts - not the usual reg, stiff thing as we all know that is a load of codswallop. Ps if/when i get my redundancy through, i'll probably be coming for a little visit.

I'd be interested in a YS pullout if you have one going!

 |
Tks Pure Forged, looked up the V2 spec and might be better with something which plays a bit softer. If you come across anything let me know and we will come to some agreement on cost etc.

Steve White, Samsung: I'll have a look tomorrow, if it's a pullout you can have it for free and just pay postage. I've got box loads. If you want to send it up to me to fit it for you email me and we can discuss a members price.

Damon, even with the same shaft , depending on the manufacturers quality control there can be a large difference in stated flex. Frequency is the only way to really measure stiffness, a lot of clubfitters tend to use the rifle scale 5.5, 5.7 etc... Most shaft manufacturers do print the uncut shaft frequencies, but depending on trimming, shafting depth, swingweight and even the weight of the grip you put on effects the frequency. I use a frequency analyser to make sure they are correct, sometimes have to adjust trimming to get the right matches. If you want to email me via my website I'll send you as much information as you want. *** Moderated - please do not post business addresses in the forum in which you have an interest ***

Sorry Damon, I didn't mean to put down your suggestion of the V2, apologies if that is how it came across Compared with the other OEM shafts it's not that bad. Just a bit boardy and dead in the tip for my taste.

Pure Forged Tks that's vg of you. You can let me have email if you prefer.

lol no probs Pure Forged Many thanks for the info above - gives a good insight into things. Just beeen thinking of trying a slightly stiffer more stable feeling shaft in my Cobra to see if it will stop my push left when i go for it. it's ok when i smooth my swing out. Sorry i can't go to your website - i get urges looking at the shiny things!!

 Me too!

Ha Ha, Damon, I think I have a Cobra NV driver pull-out which might suit what you are looking for. £10 delivered = £6 next day delivery + £1.50 for a box + £3.50 for me to box it up and take it to the post office. Steve and samsung, give me a ring and we'll talk about what shafts you may actually require. Al.

Pure Forged, Many Thanks for the offer. It's a 454 Comp with a 45g stiff Mitsubishi Rayon SL45. The NV should be a bit more stable in these winds we seem to be having, so that would be excellent. I'll mail you in the morning regarding payment. Many thanks again. Damon

Why use a 3 wood with swing speed that low? Why not use a 4 wood, (16 degrees) and the softest flex you can control?
|
 |
Are we saying that a softer flex will bring his ball flight up? Is it a low profile 3-wood or pretty standard? it's not a brand I'm familiar with. The Nakashima NX-1 3-wood is actually 16.5* and is one of the longer fairway woods I've used/fitted. Most people do benefit from a bit more loft, doesn't appear that excess spin is a problem for you (unless you hit down excessively) so you could go down the shaft weights a bit and try a tad longer if you can control it.

 Softer tip will help

quote ..Why use a 3 wood with swing speed that low? Why not use a 4 wood, (16 degrees) and the softest flex you can control? unquote.. Wormburner, not sure if your comment directed at me but an increase of 1degree won't solve the problem and Pure Forged has already made the point about the possible benefit of a solfter tip. Just out of interest I tried a friends 14 deg today which had a Fuji 50 Vista Pro (which I think is just 53 g with 4 deg of torque )and it worked fine for me. I'll not take too much offence about your 'swipe' about my slow swing speed !!
