Even though I’ve been playing consistently well with my current irons , Mizuno MX23s, I can’t take my eyes of the new siren like Mizuno MP32s which have been singing to me every time I go near them.
I quite like the idea of going back to blades and tend to agree with the idea that using slightly less forgiving clubs should focus me and help me improve my technique.
I hit a dozen or so balls with an MP 32 6 iron off a mat the other day prior to a round and I thought it was peachy. I felt like I was dispatching missiles at the press of a button with no deviation of flight which was very encouraging although I reckon hitting six irons off mats isn’t hugely challenging .
Question : has anyone bought or tested a full set and if so how do the MP32s compare against the MX23s ( there are no users reviews yet on this site ) .
What do the longer irons play like ?
I was thinking of mixing the MX23s and MP32s if I didn’t get on with the long irons . Does anyone have thoughts / ideas ?

I recall seeing a post from a Mizuno guy on here saying the sets weren't meant to be mixed and matched.
I do agree the look nice and I would have thought they're a bit more forgiving then traditional blades (the "cut-muscle" surely results in more perimeter weighting which is the basis of cavity backs).
I play golfsmith blades myself but am tempted by a shiny new set - but they are so expensive.

I am having the same feelings, I tried the 6 off a mat and was striking the ball far better than my Callaways. I also tried a set 1" longer and 2 Deg up and they were great. But before I commit I would like t play a full round with a set or at least play a 3, 5, 7 off the turf.

Tuffer, I switched away from X-16's to RAC LT's with 1 inch longer and haven't looked back. Always liked the look of Mizuno's but have had 2 sets(True and MP30) and never really clicked with them. If you intend playing the long irons, as opposed to going down the utility route, then I would give the Miz's a close examination b4 buying. I find the RAC's peachy all the way to the 3 iron and have retained the X-16 2 iron for the Summer. None of the low handicap or pro golfers I personally know use Mizuno. McGregor gear seems to be pretty popular at the moment.

jonners, the closest iron i've hit to the ones your refering to are the miz mx20 then swapped to the miz mp37s the forged blade iron is fantastic to hit and really easy to work, when i first bought them i thought theres no way i could ever hit them, as they are for the very low handicapped golfer but i tried a 6 iron on the course for 2 wks and could do no wrong i also took the rest of the mp range and for me mp37s were by far the best. in my opinion for what its worth try the full blade if going to swap there not that hard to hit but there a fantastic club if your serious about yuor golf. hope this helps

I play RAC LT's and have range tried loads of blades(Macgregor, Ping S59, Hogan etc) lately with a view to changing. I fell in love with the feel and consistency of the MP-32 on the range and will be organizing a fitting in the next few days. The RAC LT's are good but I want to have that forged feel and blade look that the Mizuno are so good at. If you can wait a month Jonners I will be either able to tell you how good they are or offer you a nearly new set at a good price! If you are in a hurry then the Macgregor combo set are good value and have the advantage of having cavity back long irons progressing to blades from 7 to wedge. And they are forged. The Ben Hogan Edge CFT have been voted Best Irons under £400 in the Feb edition of Today's Golfer.

 Interesting post...
I'm just about to buy a set of custom fitted MX23's (1 inch longer than std, 2 degrees upright and 6 tapes) after some extensive testing of a 6 iron test club. So far I have used it off a mat in the shop and also played 4/5 holes at a local course too. When in the shop I also tried the MP32's and thought they were a superb looking, feeling and finished club. But i would reckon you would only really get on with the MP32's if you are 10 or under h'cap as they will be less forgiving than the MX23's.
Definately one to try if you're not sure. Good luck and let us know how you get on...
cheers.

 And some very interesting replies...
I do rate the LTs - only thing that goes against them is the way they rough up after a short time and that they are not forged . I agree with Sean's comments and think once you've tried the forged feel there's no going back and I just find Mizuno clubs to sexy to resist.
I look forward to Sean's review or addition to this string although I don't think I can wait a month ! Also encouraged by Phil's comments that switching to MP37's from MX20s wasn't hard. I must compare the 3 irons sometime !!

I may be getting over-ambitious as I've only been playing about 2 1/2 years, but I am playing to about 13hcp. Went round in 81 yesterday which would be 11 over normally but on some shortened holes - happy with that nevertheless. I want to test myself a bit further hence the step to a more difficult? set of clubs. I'll go for the fitting for the MP-32s tomorrow unless it's blowing a gale again in which case I'll have to wait. I'm also encouraged by Phil's comments about the MP-37s which according to reviews are very hard to use e.g. Today's Golfer "If you are not a single figure player admire from a distance". Time will tell about the MP-32s. I'll keep you posted and give you an honest review of how they are for me when I get them. (Can't wait if truth be known!) Incidentally my LT's I've had for 18 months and they are like new - and I play twice a week probably - I have always had head covers though and I think that will stand me in good stead on the trade in price.

Jonners.. I have had the same feelings of desire for these little beauties but have a tendancy to hit the ball too high. I was put off by some US web site reviews where v low HC players complained of v high ball flight. Not hit a demo club yet but will do shortly.
I play the TM Pro Combos 1* stronger loft, 1/2 inch longer & 2* Up, which are excellent but not as pretty as the MP32s for sure. I may consider them later with X100 or Project X shafts.

To reply to gareth i was playing off 12 when i swapped from mx20s to mp37s just because the mx20s were too bulky around the greens with no feel, i now play off 8 and i think the shots ive saved are down to the clubs as well as practice, so you dont have to be a certain handicap to use certain clubs if they feel right and you will know when you hit them, buy them. also just pured the mp37s hit the ball slightly lower than the rest of the mp range so no probs about hitting it too high.

 Phil Cox
Thanks for your reply, I don't doubt you're right really. If you can get on with a certain set-more so than any another-then who cares what they are or look like?
I guess my point was more amied at a much higher handicapper (say 18+) who would be better off with some lessons rather than splashing out on £600 set of MP32's-lovely as they are!!
I'm off 16-18 h'cap but might just try the MP32's again before committing to the MX23's.....

 Well fellas,
I've ordered them. Standard lenghth, stiff shaft, 2* flat. Could have rushed them into having the lie angle altered by this evening but as I'm working tomorrow and Saturday I will wait until Monday morning and take delivery then. Will spend the w/e worrying if I've done the right thing though hit the 6i with such precision today it must be ok. Looking down at the longer irons, the hitting area looks about the same size as the Submit button on the bottom of this thread! Scary..

 |
Well done Sean, hope they are just what you wanted.
Where did you get them ordered and fitted?
|
 |
 Romanby, near Northallerton N Yorks

Have a look at the price on the site!!
|
 |
Wow what a cheap price Sean...does that include custom fit?
It's the best price I've seen for MP32's by about £70 !!
Here's the link for anyone else who wants it;
http://www.timjenkinsgolf.co.uk/proddetail.asp?prod=MizMP32Irons
Do I still go for the MX23's now?!?!?
|
 |
Custom fit included & I got £240 on my TM RAC Lts trade in which I thought was pretty good especially as there are new LTs out now. Good deal and service.
|
 |
Wow, can't fault that deal Sean-well done !!
All you need now is for the clubs to be your dream irons and you're away !
|
 |
MP-32's are nice but the MP-33's are still the best in the Mizuno stable. Just my two-peneth o'course.
|
 |
Just a quickie to say that I've had my MP-32s since Monday and have played a couple of rounds with them and been to the range a couple of times. So far I am really pleased and have been hitting very accurate shots with them and getting loads of feel. They are no more difficult to hit than any club I have had before and I would go as far as saying that the lack of any offset is a positive advantage. Wish the weather was a bit warmer as it's difficult to say how far each club will send the ball when it's so cold but I'm pretty sure that I will hit these a bit further than my TM RAC Lts.
