Still finding my way round this website. I read Golf Weekly, Todays Golfer & Bunkered.

Chick/sex angle for me Martin. (Your words - not mine!)

Some very good points OK for 2 pennorth ?
Biographies & stop frame swing comparisons my interest, thence the perhaps unqualified equipment reviews & distributor address list
Once a reasonable buy no longer worth cost & as comment elswhere some of 'In Yer Face' covers, sneaky duplication a put off anyway
Maybe a browse in library Aye ?
I guess editor/publisher develop its format based on circulation & unfortunately due to nature of beast over time the How To/How I! results in more of the same, different face
All available in books & now video anyway
Golf magic site its information flow forum a stepup from that generating a supportive genuine interest in common motivation that could be a force to be reckoned with in the marketing world
In relation to online professional advice I subscribe couple links although financially motivated in fact regularly email me usefull hint/tips & two access to teaching video

Only regular mag is Todays Golfer, but now that I have seen the light, and found Golfmagic, I have found more useful info here than in last 2 years of mags.

Interesting observations, guys. As a former Editor of TG and Golf Weekly (in 1990s) I created a back-up website for those titles but after a few months publishers sad 'Nah, it'll never catch on and our advertisers won't support it' so I joined Golfmagic and never regretted it for a second. The excitement is in the instant feedback - like a permanent editorial meeting in the Spike Bar. Pleased most of you appreciate the format and the info and we're working on making it even more interactive. And, by the way, the manufacturers/advertisers follow closely what you are saying about their products.

Quite right Bob - as most of the contributors have no axe to grind, impartial views are given, not only on equipment, courses and instruction but on professional competitions and players also.
Also the floor is open for contradiction and debate - which makes it ballsy and humorous.
You don't get that in a magazine. In fact the reason I no longer read monthly golf mags (unless there's a freeby) is that they are so patronising and bland.
Perhaps an annual printed mag. 'Best Of GOLFmagic' would be worth buying though.
Just a thought.

I bought a 'Play Better Golf' a couple of weeks ago, only started reading it this weekend. I was very impressed with it, I'm reading all the articles, which I don't generally do with TG.
PBG is a bi-monthly magazine. The next one is out tomorrow, I think, so I'll get that, and if I'm equally impressed, I might change my subscription to it.
|
 |
Nick - haven't seen that mag. Is it readily available in newsagents and what price?
|
 |
I got an email from Golf Monthly offering me subscription for £6.99 every 3 months for the "new look magazine". Can anyone tell me what's different about it?
|
 |
I got it in Smiths, Rob, £3.00. The current issue is supposed to come out today, so I expect the last one hasn't been on the shelves for a couple of days. I'm hoping to get out at lunchtime to see if I can get it.
|
 |
I read Golf Monthly. There is a voucher in the June issue for cheap(er) PRO V1's. You can buy 2 dozen for £53 instead of £72 at Nevada Bobs. Might be worth a look.
|
 |
I buy todays golfer but also enjoy national club golfer which is free in our club. comes out the beginning of every month

Golf mags are good reading on the john. Right now I read Golf World and Bunkered, these are less instructional based.
After half an hour on the web you will have seen almost all the "tips" they give you in the mags.
|
 |
Golf mags are good bath and bog reading, but I've seen most of the readily available ones now.
Golf Monthly, Todays Golfer and Golf World are the easiest to get hold of, so I read them.
I sometimes read Golf Pages as well.
I would only read Golf Punk if I was desperate.

Good stuff there jogger, bringing up a 3/4 year old thread!

Darn it... I didn't notice that Alex! :o)
Who looks that far back for threads? Surely it can't be...
LOL
|
 |
Jogger; where did you find this thread??? You must have either gone back about 200 page's worth of threads, or done a search and not checked to see when the thread was started
Still an interesting topic, and one that's still relevant- atleast you didn't revive predictions on who'll win the 2001 open!

my mistake just joined and a bit green around the gills
glad you all decided to join in with this revival
