Well im embarking on the adventure that is, buying a new driver, ive been working in nevada bobs, so ive seen just about all there is avalable. The question is though, which is the best?

In my view it has to be the taylor made 300ti, but im sure you all have your own opinions..

Hi Theo,

I've just recently bought an Adams GT 363 driver and I think it is awesome.

I'm still getting my head round the fact that I have what appears to be a small family car at the end of the shaft but I'm beginning to cope with that.

I have increased my drives considerably with this driver and even when I don't get it high up in the air the amount of roll produced by this club is fantastic.

My only quibble is I don't think the grip is too good and it's certainly too small for my shovel sized hands.

I'm having this taken care of and I'm changing the grip on this and my two fairway metals to the same grip as I've ordered on my new Mizuno Pro II's.

Theo,

If you have worked in NB's, IMHO, you must be the only one ever to have played the game :-)

The 300ti is a fairly boring, if safe, option. I dont think much can be said against all new OEM drivers; they will all suit someone. Personally I think the shaft and grip are just as important. For me, the Softie grip on the DeepRed365 is just about the worst invention ever, but I am sure others love it.

I currently use a Mizuno Titanium jobby with UST Proforce 75 stiff with full cord grip. Suits my game, well until I can get my hands on a 2nd hand Cleveland Launcher with stiff BiMatrix shaft, (dont tell the missus :-)) that is,lol

Whatever you get post and let us know, I know if I worked in store I would never be out of the net!!

Find me one that's the equal of a Powerbilt Citation Titanium for no more than 200 bucks and I'll be impressed.

I should be getting a Cleveland Launcher 2nd hand, although harly hit for £130!!
I cant wait to try it out, the only problem with it is that it only has 8.5* of loft, when I would really like 9.5, well at that price I suppose I cant be too picky.

Any thoughts on this Driver? Because if it is completely unsuitable ill have to opt for the Taylor made.

Oh, and what exactly does 'IMHO, you must be the only one ever to have played the game :-)' mean, im not too good at reading giberish ;-|

I have to say that I wonder if the money spent really rewards with distance and accuracy. Still not fully convinced with that argument. For me accuracy is far more important than distance, especially given the unforgiving rough at my course. Course, we all want to hit a little bit further as well don't we.

BUT..... I would like to try the new Cobra 370ss as the reviews seem to be so good and I have indulged in a Taylor Made 300ti, 2nd hand at £140 although you can buy a new one local to me for £190. I was going through a driver crisis having started continuously hooking my beloved Progen Full Bore offset after changing my swing due to lessons. Now that is a good driver even if it is "only" a Progen. I trialled a Hippo Giant, didn't like, Jack Nicklaus 9deg titanium (a lovely club but just could not get the 9 deg in the air. If they had a 10 or 10.5 I would have bought it like a shot as it flew many a mile pretty straight when properly connected), a Snake Eyes elasteel (just couldn't make it work) and even s £20 Donnay Slammer (don't knock it, I was surprised by it I must say. I bought it to see if I could handle the non-offset drivers).

Then the very patient guy at Discount Golf UK pointed me to theTaylor Made. Thought I would give it a go and it is a nice club. Hit it with an inside to outside swing and it goes nice and straight. Try the other way and it will slice. I know they say the 320 and 360 are more forgiving but I'm not a big fan of woks on sticks and wanted something that didn't look like I could serve a four course lunch off it afterwards. And it does travel. I made some really long shots and it does have a nice flight to it. They say it is for a lower flight but I had no trouble getting it in the air.

OK, so it may be a boring option but it does work quite nicely and I am starting to make it work. Incidentally I have lent my old Progen Full Bore offset to a friend and I think I will have to use a crowbar (either on the hands, or failing that on his head) to get it back from him. He absolutely loves it. £50 over 3 years ago and still hits long and straight in the right hands.

Oh yeah, and IMHO usually means

"In My Honest Opinion"

I'm with Ste with regards accurracy. No point smacking the pant of the ball if your on the next but one's fairway! I recently bought a Wilson Deep Red 365 and boy is it good. Not only has my slice seemed to have disappeared but I am getting a lot more distance.

Prices are coming down. I would advise to go for at least the stiff shaft or the steel. The extra head size does make it go whippy.

Also the sweetspot seems so large and I've managed to get drives over 200 yrds when hit of the toe! (or at least I convince myself they are).

I've tested most of the latest major brands (see reviews) and still like the King Cobra SS 370 for consistent accuracy and length. Loaned it to my 5-handicap club pairs partner (only a small guy but a semi-pro footballer) and have not been able to retrieve it as yet. He's consistently driving par-4s of 350-370 yards with it (with a touch of draw!) and thankfully has ordered a 10.5 degree regular shaft version of his own. Can't wait to get it back and make use of a variety of its eight sweet spots.

Currently use a Taylor Made 320 10.5 degree. Cannot fault it. Should also be able to get a decent price for it e.g. £169 at Directgolf.co.uk as the new Taylor Made 500 series is about to hit the shops

I am going off my VFT...but it's me that is swinging it like a wally!

Ok thank for the ideas, annoyingly enough my deal for the Launcher fell through and im gonna have to go back to the Taylor made.

I was just wandering which, out of the 300 and 320 ,(not the 360, after my hippo big clubs are not in my good books), is better.
I have tried the 300 and it was very nice, so right now it is my preference.

have you compared the two? what were your findings? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Ok having read loads of reviews on these clubs I am now swaying towards the 360.
SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!

Theo, everyone can give advice on which club is best and concensus of opinion is helpful but at the end of the day it is what club suits you. Go to somewhere where you can try out the individual models. If you are looking to spend this much money on a driver then decide on a selection which you think meets your needs, go to the nearest local retailer where you can try them out and make your own decision. One with a driving range is good as you can get a better idea with flight. As I said in my earlier thread I tried a selection before coming down to my final choice. What works for one may not work for another. Good Luck!

I recently played a round with the titleist 975j. Drove the ball better than ever before. Being told there was not a great deal of difference between the "j" and the "d", I purchased a "d" 8.5 degree and saved myself about $300 aud. Since then I have found the D to be good but not as forgiving as the "j". Having said that, I have given up trying to find the ultimate driver. I think driving well is as much psychological as it is equipment. Good luck theo...

Theo, I agree with Ste's comments that what works for one may not work for another. I played a couple of rounds with the 360 and hated it - too big and almost impossible to shape shots. My pro on the other hand loves his.

Has anyone tried the Mizuno Blue Rage 350cc model? I like the 310cc but fancy trying the 350cc for the extra forgiveness. Neither seem to look as big as the TM's as well which I think is an added bonus.

Where is the size explosion going to end? I heard that someone (Integra?) have a 520cc model in the pipeline. Gulp!

I got the 360 recently and get on with it very well. It is hard to shape shots, but thats the point isn't it? If it is a forgiving club it won't respond to "accidental" fades or draws either.

No matter what everybody say`s a driver is only as good as the person swinging it.

Well I have found my driver and it is........wait for it.......the taylor made R360ti, I borrowed the club from a local shop to see if it was suitable for me and if it hit it much further than my 3 wood.
Well my first two shots with it were on the 1st tee, risky and stupid I know and needless to say they were horrific, both giant tops rolling off the tee box, well my credibility only went down in the eyes of the 25 people sitting watching me, so it wasnt that bad. NOT.
Well the round progressed and every drive I hit was bad, big slice not solidity in the strike. The second day I went out the driver was not co-operating with my 'finley tuned' swing, UNTIL, the 7th hole uphill into a slight breese BAAAAM, 270 slight fade leaving me a 180 yards shot to the green. So my it seemed I had nailed it. I hadn't, both drives i hit on the 8th were poor to say the least, confidence was low on the 9th but I nailed it 260 uphill, leaving a little sand wedge in leading to a birdie.

Well to cut a very long and boring story slightly shorter, ive just come back having broken my best drives on 4 different holes, almost I was next to the greenside bunker after my first 300 yarder, well 298 maybe on the 10th, I left my self a smooth five iron into a 480 yard par5 and on the 5th hole I drove it 280 and flipped a little sandwedge into the green and birdied the hole.

Now I know you sceptics out there will think im talking out of a hole other than my mouth but it really is true. Cant wait for all the competitions to start that I have lined up in the next few weeks!!!!
