Hi All hope you had good weekends.

I have finally got my girlfriend enjoying learning golf and I would like to buy her a single 7 iron. (she is notorious for starting something then giving up)

Are ladies clubs the same length generally as mens? I ask as she is 5ft11
and will need a longer club i guess.

Any ideas on where I could get something for her to learn with?

Cheers

A single seven iron is fine initially altho the shaft will be to stiff for her unless she's fatima whitbred, ladies clubs have to have more flex than mens and are generally shorter, even tho she is nearly six foot.
When she commits to playing only decent thing thing is to buy her a full set of custom made callaways with Nebuloni shoes to match:)

I better get her saving then :)

American Golf used to sell ladies clubs (mizuno widecs I think) singly - I know cos I bought some for my son when he started as they were ideal length for him then.

Could try ebay as they have lots of single irons at good prices.

I use the Deep red mens and my GF has a womans 6 iron and it is around 1/2 inch shorter and the grip is thinner to suit smaller hands.

Here's a full set of starter clubs for £69 quid. Can't do better than that!

I'm 5ft 1" and I bought my clubs off the shelf, so to speak. To be honest, it shouldn't make too much difference at our level. But ladies shafts are more more flexible for the slower swing speeds, so until she's thrashing you, I'd reccomend she stick with a ladies club. I wish her luck. Be patient with her:)

Bought my mrs a second hand set of mens macgregor irons and some skymax ladies woods (3,5 and 7wood), cut about 4 ' off each shaft as she's only about 4.9ft.

She now seems to have caught the golf bug and has stolen my ping anser putter too!

Still trying to talk her into taking lessons from a pro rather than myself (due to personal safety reasons) but she's getting there slowly.

worst thing is she a demon putter !

Played at Tilsworth GC near Dunstable yesterday and in their Pro Shop they were selling new ladies irons for £15 each. They were Wilson graphite shafts. I'm sure they would post you a 7 iron Steve.

Steve
Surely as one of England's finest on the European Tour you could just wander into one of the manufacturer's vans on-site at any tournament and get them to knock you up a modified club for the missus ??

Doh, I'm afraid that making a sweeping generalistation about ladies swing speeds is a mistake. Having a fitting session will prove this. My fitting pro has told me that ladies swing speeds differ enormously, much more than mens speeds. The reason generally being that men seem to want to knock the cover off the ball!
In fact, when teaching beginners, both our pros prefer teaching ladies. Why? Because they LISTEN and are not obsessed with smashing the ball out of the range!

Start her with an iron, and if she enjoys it get her an ironing board as well.

I'm sure she'd be grateful.

Not being a women i have no idea whatsoever, nor am i intrested in the answer as it has no interest to male golfer's such as myself who have no intent on getting their wives into golf. Pfff.
