Received a Direct Golf U.K. mag today saw some Nike Pro Combos in steel available in rifle or dynamic gold shaft now at £249 last issue same mag. they were £549 which was only a few months ago. Anybody got or tried these like the idea of the 3 iron to 7 iron being cavity and 8 to PW being blade type ...seem a good price now any thoughts ??

remember they are models from different years.

also i helped one of the guys on here those same clubs for £199 earlier this month. it was a link to a golf punk promotion. I will see if i can find it again. But even at £249 i think its a good price.

They are pretty good clubs. I have hit them, but i ended up getting macgregor 1025CM (combo set) as i liked the softer feel of the macgregor and the shaft available suited me better in the macgregors.

A few guys should be along soon to tell you how they have gotten on with them on the course. i have only hit them at the range.

My mate also got a second hand set for christmas, but with the snow we've not been able to get a hit with them.

yeh but if you call up (like another member did) you may just save yourself £50 :) Suck it and see.

It was new club day at the range today.....
1 mate with nike pro combos stiff shaft
1 mate with mizuno mp60's extra stiff shaft and an extra inch.
me with macgregor 1025CM's flight rifles 5.0

what was noticable was how similar the pro combo and mp60's were at address. in fact both clubs had the same grips and apart from the inch difference you couldn't have told the difference between the clubs at address for the 6 iron anyway.

I hit the pro combos and again i'd say my macgregors were softer and nice feel, but that could be down to the shaft differences.

I'd still be happy with these in my bag :)

Pro combos - World class

Lovely clubs long irons forgiving short irons plenty workable and the 6-7 iron are just plain fun, forged so a lovely soft feel I took the medallions off the back of mine for a cleaner look.

However the speed step shaft is junk make sure rifles or Dynamics or else you would hit moon rockets.

Ps I now play LTII's purely for the fact they were custom fitted and Nikes custom UK department well is there one????!?!?!

Rifle are rated by many as a quality shaft and... '3 iron to 7 iron being cavity and 8 to PW being blade'... all for this. I had my irons set up this way before I went to a full set of blades.

Being good with wedges I found having the 8/9/PW in blades gave great results.

Hope it helps?

I'll step in here as the member MisterS3 helped out - and I'm truly thankful he did.

The price was 199 on the DG promo link but 299 on the site. Whne I emailed them they did them for 199 with no hesitation.

They are a superb set of clubs. I changed from Callaway X-14's and saw the quality of my ball striking improve straight away. The short Irons are very, very good.

I have the Rifle 6.0 shafts which are of a very high quality.

It was a few months back, until early december i think, but just point him at the link. Its a link on direct golf's website!! They should have removed it if they didn't want people to buy using it! Matt (see above) did.

November, I think.

Just make sure you get the right shafts - I bought a new set off ebay with reg graphite shafts and they were far to soft. Ended up selling them back on ebay.

Looks like DG have only the stock stiff left.

If that's the SpeedStep shaft I'd avoid it like the plague.

Yuk.

whats wrong with the speed step shaft?

just becasue a particular shaft doesnt suit a certain demographic group of golfers doesnt mean that its a crap shaft!!

i have only tried these with the standard reg shaft, felt nice but it balloned and went left. i lost my bid on ebay for nike forged blades and was looking to get these with a stiff rifle, but as matt 3 said direct golf have run out of rifle shafts :(.
i have now bidded for some titleist 690.cb sith a stiff rifle. i tried a mates who has the same and they are perfect for me i think

I understand that, Nick.

The SpeedStep, is, in my opinion a very poor shaft. I hit it in both stiff and regular on a nike demo day and it was very, very inconsistent. Like Ben, I found it ballooned, but not consistently. It felt very prone to twisting. In short, I thought it was a load of rubbish. Same clubs with either the Dynamic Gold or Rifle shafts were much, much better - in stiff and regular.

This opinion is shared by lots of people who have played this shaft in these irons.

However, it's just opinion which is why I said *I'd* avoid it like the plague. Obviously people should find the correct gear for their game. However, I'd just be surprised if a player who had reached a decent level of play and consistency would find the SpeedStep acceptable.

I can relate to waht Matt is saying.I swopped the Nikes because of teh ballooning at worst, just too bloody high at best.I put this down to the shaft. The clubs are beautifully made and will last forever, there are no quality issues as far as I am concerned. But the Speedsteps imo are more suited to a beginner

I've Got a set of these & a fitted set of Ping i5's & the Pro combo's blow the Pings into the weeds, They feel so much better Softer they have great control in the short blades 8 9 PW SW. The longer irons are a little hard to hit if your not on your game but when you do they just power off the face, By comparason the Pings feel clunky & are hard to control on feel shots NIKE PRO COMBO 9 out of 10 TOP KIT
