Apologies for such a stupid question. Do any clubs other than drivers (such as fairway woods) exceed the maximum COR? I am looking at a TM 580xd 7 wood, but I'm not sure if it will be legal after 2008.

Thanks

My understanding is that there is no limitation on the COR of golf clubs with 15 degrees or more of loft.

I've seen this question answered by experts on another forum. There is a physical limitation due to the clubhead size (especially the faces) which make it impossible to go above the current limit. So there's no need to test. It just can't happen.

guess more people are going to be using a 3 wood from more offen then...........

Lets just hope its part of the death for 460cc drivers (great bricks on sticks that are faulse hero machines, ohh I hit 300 yards once in 40 drives, I'll buy the £400 crap driver).

Bring back the skill and small headed woods.

I thought the maximum possible only through technology or whatever you want to call it was 0.82 COR at the moment for a fairway wood.

Golfsmith do a 15° Hi-COR driver. There is no current limit above 15° that I can find. Some searching on FGI produced some interesting information, seems the theoretical COR limit is round about 0.92. After that chances increase that clubfaces will be so thin, they will break.

As for fairway woods, to maximise the COR often means increasing the clubhead size to accommodate a bigger face - and who can hit a "bighead" fairway wood? Yes it'll be Hi-COR but might be unplayable, which kind of defeats the object of the exercise.

Although I think the the Ashton X-1 achieves Hi-COR without being excessive, I'd have to do more digging around.

As for 3W off the tee, what you gain in COR you might lose in launch angle/spin rate, so it's no guarantee of distance gain.

Yep its true, as long as the loft of the club is over 15*, the cor can be whatever. Otherwise 0.830
