My Putting is shot to pieces already this early in the new year and i'm contemplating buying a Odyssey White Hot 2 Ball.
After earning rave reviews in magazines and quoted as the best selling putter i ask the forum.... do you believe the hype?
And are they worth the money?
Any experiences would be very much appreciated. (and any links to where to buy cheap if i'm convinced they're the real deal!) :-)
Cheers, Mick

I think the success of the putter and it's many clones would probably say that the product does seem to live up to the hype.
Saying that, I don't own one although I have tried it and decided it just wasn't for me.
I wouldn't set your sights on a particular putter as it is such a personal thing. Better to try out all the various normal, weird and wacky designs to see which suits you best.
In terms of value for money, the putter is the most used club in the bag so in terms of bangs for your buck it doesn't look so bad. Saying that don't believe that an expensive one will suit you. A budget putter may be your ideal club.
And if your putting is shot, why not get a putting lesson from the pro? It could save you a lot of the heartache.

Like Ste - my own feelings are that whatever helps give you confidence in your putting - go for it. I have a two ball (had a yes and several others in between) but have reverted back to my nike blue oz (a putter I bought after really liking its feel) which is doing the job well at the moment. I am a touch heavy handed and I found the two ball a little too heavy. I tend to go for the back balanced type putter as opposed to a traditional putter although I have pals who wouldn't switch. Spend a good half hour trying them out at your local golf superstore or pro shop. Whatever works for you!

Generally for people who can't putt and look for a last resort putter. Save your money and get a putting lesson.

ive tried scotty camerons and rossas, but ive putted best with my trusty 2-ball, so i at least believe the hype.
but i agree with worm, a putting lesson will be cheaper and more beneficial than a new putter

The 2-ball is an excellent putter. Several tour pro's use it and many top amateurs. Worm is completely wrong in his opinion of it being for losers.
Its the easiest of all putters to line up, has good MOI properties and various models have different face materials so you can choose one to suit your choice of how the ball comes off the face.
Its a "go to" putter for many people, and the choice of many others.
If you are considering one I do suggest going to a biggish shop where they have many different models and that you can try them. There is a difference between say the black insert to the white steel insert.

I agree with worm Don't know anyone who has kept one of these in their bag - hardly see them out there now.
: o )
Ping Crazee is a better balanced putter anyway and the G5 B60 shallow version is almost perfect.
|
 |
yea Annika Sorenstam cant putt thats why she uses one!
Saying its for people who cant putt is totally wrong. I take it you use a persimmon driver Worm? Surely todays drivers are only for people who struggle with their driving??
|
 |
 Heh, heh
I hated them when they first came out, along with the now obsolete SC Futura
... had to eat my words with the amount used on tour
... but I still think they are crap
; o )

I really like the look and feel of the white steel two-balls. But if you are looking to buy one be warned. The deluge of new 2-ball white-steels on ebay are likely to be fakes. I saw one at the weekend and it certainly was!

i have owned an odyssey two ball blade for 15 months and i must say it does work. I would not consider changing it.
as for it being used only by people who cant putt, that is a load of spuds. I can putt. ( i am no David Howell but rareley three putt )
;)
I have tried traditional blades, liked, but fet i was too inconsistent, but disliked mallet types due to feeling of the club was too heavy. I consider myself quite heavy handed so i chose a white hot face rather than the harder DFX face.

Well you will not go far wrong if you buy a two ball. This putter has stayed the test of time like few do. Still a lot of tour pros use it! I used to struggle a bit with consistency. I had a blade type putter so like many people went for a change and got one of these. I went for the DFX version, this has a slightly firmer insert. This has really has transformed my putting into one of my strengths, it is so well balanced and visualy easy to line up! Dave pelz the short game expert recomends that anyone 12 H'cap and higher should use a face ballanced putter of which most mallets are! So my advice would be two fold. Yes get yourself a two-ball (you will not be disapointed) & secondly get a putting lesson also! Good Luck Mick your game improves from now!

I bought a centre shafted White Steel 2 Ball some time ago - based on the hype and it was being used on the tours. At the end of the day I had to let it go as it just didn't suit my eye at all (although it semmed to work fine when I was trying it out on the mats!). Got myself a Yes! Victoria II and absolutely love it. On the pluse side, AG only gave me £40 part ex for my 2-ball so you could probably get a decent price for a second hand 2 ball if it's what you really fancy...

If your not too worrried about getting the absolute latest putters have a look at the Original Two Ball. I learnt a good technique to use with a mallet putter and then treated myself to this.

Gave my 2 Ball to my son, he likes it. I'm back on a scotty cameron. Which ever works at the time is the best putter !
|
 |
I have two - an original white hot two ball that the Mrs bought for me and a new XG 2 ball blade. The blade works best for me as I tend to get better distance control with a blade, but the alignment works well for the 3 - 6 ft region. It may well be a placebo effect but I'm more confident on the shorter ones. You still need to practice your stroke though .

Very rarely lose to anyone playing a two - ball putter and am usually delighted if I see one in the bag of an opponent. They still miss as often as any other putter - but even more in the hands of someone who has bought one as a cure-all for crap putting, which at one time seemed to be the target purchaser. They have been around a long time now however and some of them have become a well used and trusted friend - I do know of one person who is deadly with his heavily modifed version (right CK?) ... so maybe

I had one to improve my confidence on the greens, it only lasted a month or two before I went back to my old putter, it just didn't suit my eye. Mind you looking at the age of the original post you've no doubt had several putters by now
