As one of the "eejits" who plays throughout the year, one of the things I made sure of was that I tried to keep myself one. So the old thermals are a must for a cold windy day but don't let anyone see you wearing them in the changing room afterwards. And have you tried the fleece backed golf gloves (sold as a pair) by Wilson (and probably others)? Neat and simple by having a standard Golf Glove inner but with a fleecy back to keep the wind out.

Ste, don't those gloves remove some of the feel from your game? Although with frozen hands I guess there isn't much feel anyway.

Hey Alex --- you got a new heed

Well Alex, they do a little bit but as it is the outside that is fleecy and the inside (palms and fingers) are of standard golf glove material it's not too bad. As you say, at least it keeps your hands warm and so helps you to enjoy your golf a bit more. I don't know about others but if my extremities (that's toes, fingers and head guys) get cold then I lose concentration so it's two pairs of socks, on with the wooly hat and the warmer gloves and then I'm away!

I'm being a bit of a fair weather golfer this winter - particulary after playing so badly in September. Maybe warm gloves are just what I need to encourage me to get back out there.

If you have to play in the cold weather, like I do, make sure you have a bobble hat, mittens and a pair of warm socks. The Seal Skins socks are great, every major manufacturer has golf mittens to wear and if you have a few layers on, such as a t-shirt, polo neck, jumper and a fleece, you should stay pretty warm.

I know that FootJoy sell winter gloves in pairs for around £15, they are pretty good, but I prefer to keep my mittens on and keep my hands warm. Just take them off to play a shot, it's only 30 seconds or so. The FootJoy gloves, while allowing you to play all round with gloves on, offer very little feel!

Also, take a flask of coffee out with you too...every little helps!

Oh..and FootJoy Dry I.C.E shoes are brilliant for keeping the temperature constant in your shoes!

Apart from frozen courses and temporary greens, there is now no excuse not to play in the winter! Just think of the hot whisky "toddies" after in the bar!!!
