 How long does a top quality cabretta leather glove last guys?
Having bought a soft as silk Footjoy Sof Joy glove for about 12 quid and used it for five rounds, I am now disappointed to find that the tanning on the palm and thumb has worn away.
I generally keep 'em for longer than this and I don't think that anything has changed grip wise.
I have previously used lesser quality leather gloves or part synthetic, part leather.

A pro would possibly use a dozen gloves per round.I think that might tell you something.
OK if you don`t have to pay for them.

 Good point to raise Al I have been looking at the options for a little while now. The no glove Freddy Couples method is getting more and more tempting. I would be interested to know how necessary gloves are as opposed to being something that has caught on and is deemed the norm.

I'm going to try playing without a glove for a while, to see if it's just a habit. It does feel a little strange, particularly when driving but without any noticeable difference in shot making.
The ball still goes where it chooses.

 Read somewhere that gloves wear a hole cos of letting go at the top due to gripping to hard at address.

Bought three pairs of Taylor Made, Tour Preferred gloves for £23 from direct-golf.
They are not Cabretta but some thinner, stronger, more wear resistant leather according to the sales blurb.
It doesn't however say what type of leather it is.
Whats the bettin' it's kangaroo skin.
I'll let you know how they perform

In the US I buy Premium Cabretta Pacific Coast gloves which are just as good as the named ones as far as feel and lasting qualities are concerned.
Thet cost £2.70 each!

They are available at most golf stores too. Strange we don't see them in Britain. Presumably not enough profit in them!

The price of cabretta gloves in the UK has got silly. Particularly as this type of leather is soft, does not wear well and is crap in the wet.
Because of the vegitarian do-gooders, use of 'roo skin for sports equipment is frowned upon in the UK.
As a leather though it does fulfil a lot of the requirements of a golf glove, thin, tough, all weather (does not go slimey)
I just wonder if Taylor Made use it without advertising the fact.

The Taylor Made Tour Preferred are the best gloves I've ever used (I have put a review in user reviews)
The only criticism is that I could only get them in white and they get grubby.
Wearing these makes any other glove feel thick and bulky and they are as tough as old boots.

I'll have a look at those. Titleist used to make a really thin and soft glove but they didn't last 5 minutes.
How much extra distance does it give you? :-)

Thanks Gilles but I bought three of the Taylor Made gloves and the way the first is wearing will be unlikely to need any more for a while.
The Footjoy is a good, well fitting glove but wears out too quick.
