Why is it that Motocaddy's instructions state to always recharge fully after every use, even if you only play a few holes then?
Think about it. If your battery develops a low memory threshold you will (sooner or later) buy a new one. Like most manufactures I'm sure they make most money from selling spares rather than from the initial units sale.

Oldslugger what did you make of the S3 compared to the S1? Would you put one ahead of the other?

Im also thinking about these trolleys.

With batteries all i can say is they should be left to go down to at lest 80-85` disscharge, and then charged up fully. Do the same again for about 3 charges then the battery lears all the time to charge fully. But they do get better after a few usage.
Coz i had a powakaddy a few years ago and that was the same. Took about 5 or 6 full charges to play a round and a half on a 18 hole battery.
But i did find the powakaddy a little flimbsy though, just moved round a little with the bag. Never got it realy secured either. And that was a big 9.5 mizuno staff bag.
So might have a go with the s1.

It might be too late for some people.

Paul.

No they shouldnt!!!!! Lead Acid batteries ARE NOT designed to be discharged anywhere remotely like fully. Significant discharge of Lead Acid batteries causes distortion to the plates resulting in damage and an inability to hold charge in the future.

I bet most of the folks who have battery problems have allowed their batteries to run out of charge on at least a couple of occaisions.

I've got two batteries both a year or so old....one i have let run down to flat on a couple of occaisions and have ran it very low on several other occaisions....it struggles towards the end of a round. The other one has allways been put back on charge and never allowed to run remotely near flat. It gives perfect service.

I have an S1 (18 hole battery) - no worries or problems with it!!

quieter than my friends powakaddy, and i have done 9 holes then 18 the next day and it was pulling strong till the end.

Sometimes the handle gets warm - but i have no issues atall - like the design and look aswell.

Batteries will be batteries - i think that is just where we are regarding the evolution of this power unit - follow the instructions (always charge and kep on tricle charge etc) and you should be ok. when it dies, bite the bullet and buy a replacement.

Regarding all the negative comments on this subject - im sure all trolleys have their inherrent problems, it is how the company or retailer deal with it that is the mark of success. to see the heated conversations going on about this makes me wonder how old some of you guys are. If you have an issue deal with it the best you can and move on. B!tching and stating other members are working for x, y or z is all a bit too much really!! get out and play a bit more golf!!

Agree with The Fugitive - think about it - the battery in your car is never left to go flat. Trolley batteries are the same, this confusion about 'battery memory' is to do with NiCad batteries, that were used in electronic gear. If you totally flatten a lead acid trolley battery it will be knackered.

Hi,

I have just got a S1 and love the look of it, Im yet to go for a round and I was wondering if any of you are using the  18 Hole Battery (12V 18Ah) with your caddy as i am concern that a 18 hole battery will struggle round my course as its quite hilly and it 6209 yards. what do you guys think should i go for the 27 hole bat although i never play more than 18 in a day

 Thanks for any replys

My battery on my Hill Billy is 18Ah and gets round The Vale (7200 yards) and other up hill and down dale shorter tracks with plenty to spare.

An 18 hole battery should do 18 holes anywhere.

I have 27 hole battery on my S3 and it gets me round 36 holes with around half the charge still showing - avg distance for 18 holes on 6800 yd course is 8400 yds walked.

I have just had to get a new battery for my S1 after 9 months, and I kept it on charge all the time, played a lot of 9 hole rounds and 18 hole rounds.  Never let it go completly flat, but it now only does 15 holes.  I have just brought one of the new Gel type to see if that will last longer.

Great trolley though much prefer it to the powacaddy.

I have an S1 purchased 2005. Noisy gearbox in first 6 months (warranty) and on/off switch failurs (also warranty). Now the axle has sheared - out of warranty of course. Availability of replacement shaft & gearbox suggest there is a fault here.Should I recommend Motocaddy to friends?
