I have a set of Hogan Edge CFTs. Now these are a cast head except for the face which is forged titanium. I like the feel of them and they give a nice sound as well.

I have read on and on this debate about forged vs cast but they always refer to steel clubs.
Is there any difference in feel between forged steel and forged titanium? Has anyone tried both on irons who could give me their opinion?

I have no intention of changing my irons, it's just a question that's being bugging me for a couple of weeks. In reality I never think about my irons being forged.

Robster - I have a set of Srixon XX10's that also have a forged titanium face in a steel cradle, they are also great but do not feel quite as good as my forged Mizuno's. I think it is to do with the softness (Ha!) of mild carbon steel.
The whole idea of forging was to eradicate the possibility of having voids in the cast metal, which would be unpredictable when struck.
Modern casting techniques eradicate this problem anyway. At least with a forged face you know they are better made for consistency

Incidentally those Hogan CFT's are superb - I played with a set and nearly bought them but got my Mizuno's off Ebay - cheap.

the faces will be Beta Titanium which is a Titanium alloy {ie: other metals mixed in} as this is the only way any form of Titanium can be forged

as forging is a heat treatment process {used to tighten & thus strengthen grain flow structure} it will do the same for a Titanium alloy as it would for a carbon steel clubhead

a forged carbon steel clubhead would 'appear' to feel more solid as it's produced from one solid billet of material with the grain flow packed in the same direction - however , you're getting a similar effect of feel with those Titanium face inserts set into a cast clubhead -- I take it you already know that a cast clubhead produces a random grain flow structure during the manufacturing process

having hit the Hogan Edge clubs before I can indeed vouch for how good they feel - equally as good as a forged carbon steel clubhead , perhaps just a little hotter off the face ? -- that's down to the COR value of Beta Titanium over forged carbon steel

as for forged versus cast clubheads in general - when struck out the sweetspot it was once found by Ping that even 8 from 10 tour pros could tell no perceivable difference , ergo a sweet shot out the middle just feels sweet whichway whatever - it is claimed that forged clubs help regulate distance control better but again this only comes from shots out the sweetspot
