Basically i need a new set of clubs, been playing for a few months with a cheap set of ryder from argos.

Looking to spend around £150, but there is just so many choices out there, have come across these but @ £50 (irons only)http://www.discountgolfstore.co.uk/ProductDetails/mcs/productID/1674/groupID/11/categoryID/65/v/bb4d28ff-6270-4e10-93be-6547beeaeb9e and there getting good reviews, worth it?

This question gets asked time and time again. Just have a look at some of the previous threads. It not as simple as picking a set within a price. Sure you've got a budget, but go down to a local shop that lets you try them out and see which suits. If you can't do that that then try these.

Try www.thesportshq.com they've got loads of stuff on sale. Also try www.14clubs.com where you can customise the clubs how you like. They also have 30 day return if you don't like them or want something changed. Their customer service is top notch.

I'm also a beginner and I personally use RAM Wizard II irons which you can now get from www.thesportshq.com for £69.99!! They might not have the name of Mizuno or Ping etc. but they are forgiving clubs and well made. They are pretty heavy so you need to be a fairly strong bloke.

If you go to a pro, assuming he isn't a good mate, and you tell him you have £150 to spend he'll make sure you spend £150 at least. The same will go for golf stores. Excuse my cynicism but fessing up what your budget is will get you matched with what you have to spend. Even though said clubs may well suit you spend less where you can.

Your best bet would be ebay for a quality used set of irons, such as Ping eye 2s, or come to that many of the irons listed in the reviews section of this site. It would probably be worth trying one of the many static fitting guides on the web such as Pings to get a rough idea of what to look for on ebay.

I only suggest the Pings because when you come to trade them you will likely get 75% of your money back and at the same time they are forgiving.

Im swaying towards the wilsons just to the fact they are better brand and in theory better clubs? or the first set of RAMs

The RAM Concept V's are pretty well thought of and certainly not bank breakers.

Take a trawl through the classifieds on this site some good quality stuff that might well suit. I often believe that good quality secondhand can be better than cheap new. Very often you are buying at a price they can be resold at if they do not suit.

Rory, buying cheep irons will not do you any favours when trying to improve. IMO you should take advice from your Club Pro or a reputable local Pro after a lesson as he should be able to advise a suitable set to your budget.

However, if you’re looking for second hand I also do have a set available. Titliest Forged 704cb / Dynamic Gold R300 shafts / Standard Titliest Full Cord Grips. Clubs and grips in good condition as only used for approx. 6 months – been sat in the garage 12 months not used LOL. They are ½ inch longer than standard and 2* upwards, however this can be easily changed by a local Pro etc. with a lie loft unit. Going for £150.

I would go down the road of second hand set from ebay or golf bidder. You will get more for your money

Cant say i have played the Black cats but i played the Lynx Parallax FC's and loved them.

I think Lynx were bought out(bankrupt?) 5-6 years ago and are now more akin to Snake eyes and maybe considered more of a component company rather than an OEM.

Regardless of this the offer seems a bargain, assuming they fit you and your eye.
