Hi

Am fairly new to golf and picked up a full set from a mate a few months ago. I seem to get distance on all my irons as I would expect, but I struggle for distance with the 5 wood. This is an older style 5 wood, and it only goes 130 yards.

My question is....Is it my swing, technique etc, or would I fair better with a newer wood?
Money isn't a problem, I am just quite attached to its antique charm.

Not sure how many use a 5 wood now mate. Its all going to rescue clubs. Well i bought one.

Should maybe try a 21 degree rescue club and see what you think.

Definately try rescue clubs. I was relatively new to the game and tried a 5 wood and I topped 9 out of 10. I now play a 4 iron replacement Taylormade r7 draw and is the best move I have made. Try rescues to start out and maybe progress to woods. I'm personally considering getting another rescue that would replace a 3 wood.

Sounds to me like the shaft has gone Mark...it's interesting that the guys above are all switching to hybrids.

I've just bought an r5 dual five wood second hand and love it. I had developed a horrid pull hook with my hybrid and avoided hitting it. It's all down to taste and when you're confident with a club you'll see really quick results.

My tip would be to look through the bargain/2nd hand bins at your nearest big golf shop or ebay and see what you can find made by callaway, ping or taylor made.

I bought a Hybrid Rescue & Hated it.. Heavenwood 14 Degree..

Since Bought 2 Cleveland Woods 17 & 22 Degree and Wouldnt Swap them for Gold..

Sounds like the Flex is Wrong in Shaft for your Swing in your 5w.

Like Oz Says Bargain Bins Will Be full of this Type of thing... as more and more people ditch them in favour of the rescue clubs.. But if you ask me its all Marketing Hype for the Same thing..

Paul.
