I am thinking of buying 905R with V2 via Ebay.
Anyone with any feed back would be appreciated including pitfalls & benefits
Many thanks

High spinning head to get ball airborne.
High launch/low spin shaft to keep ball flight under control.
Bore thru head = 1/2 flex stiffer than standard = more control but potential loss of distance.
Not easily sky-marked if you are unfortunate enough to lend it to a mate who subsequently skies it!

Good quality club if suits your swing & shaft flex/type. Do not believe its the furthest hitting club though.

Perceived to be aimed by Titleist for better players clubs and hence not seen as forgiving as some, though think this was their first attempt at 'clubs for masses' compared to their predominently low launching previous offerings.

My tuppence worth, best to get one taped up & see if you like it first before purchasing.

The 905 V2 is a beast,if you are a powerful player with a consistent swing then its a beaut,if not,its nye on unplayable and I'm not exaggerating. Its not at all forgiving with that shaft

an 8.5 with x stiff V2 made me feel like a bit of a wimp and in fact made me cry

This is great club if you are a competent player, i agree you should try before you buy. it's worth the bother.

I would strongly disagree with comments saying it is nearly 'unplayable'. I presume this is a massive exaggeration because anyone who finds it that bad is playing the wrong game! The truth is that it is a fine club albeit not quite as user friendly as other offerings for that year. How this applies to you will depend on what you are coming from. If you have a Nike SQ then you probably wont think it is so fantastic, but if you are playing with a 320cc club from 5 years ago, you will likely find the 905R to be incredibly forgiving.

I have two 9.5 905Rs one with 757 Speeder and another with Grafalloy Blue in it. The latter is better in the wind but IMO they are the best drivers I have ever hit and they make a nice subtle sound at impact. Just remember to tee the ball a tad lower than for most deeper faced drivers to get more consistent contact.

Chemphysics,

No offence intended,

Whilst Wormburner can certainly defend himself, would re-iterate his point that with the WRONG SHAFT FLEX/HEAD LOFT, the club as any combo can be almost unplayable as he found the V2 X-flex in the 8*5 head to be.

AS you are probably aware, the X-flex V2 which already plays very stout, would in a bore-thru hosel, effective play XX flex requiring a very fast tour pro swing speed to 'load' the shaft.

This is exacerbated with the less forgiving nature of Titleist heads as a rule and the 8.5* head wouldn't assist. Hence, my advice was to try before buying as having had a proper 757 speeder in mine in the past, can emphasise with Wormburner's comments.

Agree with your latter comments as found mine a lot easier to hit coming from the classic 983k and previous TM300Ti drivers, though even now, still have misgivings about its accuracy, though might just be nostalgia....

None taken. I merely wanted to make clear that the club itself is plenty forgiving. Of course if you match it with something terrible in shaft terms then you will have trouble - but this is not specific to the titleist, it will be true for every club on the market.

Chemphysics

As shexy has pointed out,I am referring to the shaft/head combo inc the V2,it plays hard in the tip and is not at all forgiving, maybe we have different opinions of what forgiving is,but with that shaft its not for the light hearted.

I like the club, but being a bore-thru it needs careful matching. And off centre, there are many more clubs that are more forgiving than this, the sweet spot is on the small side compared to others, its a club that needs demoing if ever there was one.

Whatever feel the face has the X stiff V2 I tried took it all away. And the next one I tried with an Accuflex was marginally better, but still hard on the hands.

If I have been playing the wrong game then its taken me 27 years to discover it.I repeat, its a good club, but finding the right shaft is the key.I've hit 3 and disliked them all and sometimes its difficult to put your finger on whether its the head or shaft,in this case, its so obviously the shaft its a huge benefit, you know for sure when its matched.

I played the 983E for 2 years so have form with their heads.I had that in a Prolte 35,and needed 10.5 to get it up

I wld not get the X stiff shaft only stiff as I have been measured at ave 98mph
Many thanks for the feedback it is really appreciated.

98mph is nowhere near enough for a V2 stiff in that head, imo you need regular with a soft tip

best try it for yourself, its only one opinion, and its a personal thing, you may love it

easily sold again via Ebay with that shaft though

I play the 905r in a 8.5` and using the V2 shaft. Myself i find it very playable. Quite forgiving if you heel or toe it, still goes.
Its the only shaft i could get on with on the 905r, and i`ve now bought a 585h with the same V2 shaft. blody awesome they are.
I like to play round a little with the 905r and hit a low shot or 3/4 stinger like tiger, And it allows me to do this and feel ok doing it even in comps.
Only thing though, you have to use the pink 460 tees.

Hey Paul wats a 585h when its @ home mate?Wat is ur swing speed & wat sort of V2 do u have?

I haven't said its not forgiving,I have only compared it to other drivers. Its as forgiving as its grandfather, the 983E,but compared to say an X Tour its not forgiving at all

I still maintain its at the bottom of the forgiving tree BUT,most 460 drivers are extremely forgiving, its just horses for courses.

Hi Wormburner
I tried the reg&stiff V2 with Wilson DD6?driver @ a demo day and the stiff was longer & straighter for me. I hit 15 balls with each so hope that was enough( Iwas knackered as I had already hiy the 3 wood & rescue clubs (also with both options) and stiff was better 4 me.
I will let u know progress. I also saw the thread about Macgregor MactecNVG2 Draw. Any views on that as an alternative or any other suggestions. I am trying to find a driver I can draw & fade at will. My current driver I can only hit a fade.

Its a S/76g shaft v2 proforce
The 585h is a Hybrid. Its like a rescue club with a V2 proforce 100-s/104g shaft and a 19` like maybe a 2 iron.

The V2 will play totally different in a bore through head,it will play stiffer

you can shape the 905 at will,it will go either way no problem, controlling it is a different matter

I believed the “Titleist is really meant for low h/c players” line until, on a whim, I tried a 10.5 905R with NV65s at a driving range. (I’m a 14 h/c) Part exchanged it for my 10.5 Ping G5 with PL . It’s proved to be just as forgiving as the G5 (which most people consider very forgiving). I’m more consistent with it (could be the shaft) and just as long. But to be honest I bought it because it just felt livelier and looked better to me and I liked the slightly lower profile (use to have a TM320)

Never tired a V2 shaft but do try a 905R it really can be used by mere mortals.
