I am looking to replace my 3 wood & utility and would like advice on what would fit. I have a Titleist 905R 9.5 76g V2 driver that I am happy with but my Ping G5 3 wood 15 degree Prolaunch 75 stiff does not marry well with my driver. My driver sits nice and square which I like and is not heavily heel balanced that I feel the Ping is. The Ping to my eye also sits too closed ( ordered club off local pro without trying first) and as I result I have to employ a totally different technigue to hit successful shots with my 3 wood or otherwise I can lose it way left with a big hook or pull-hook. I have the same problem but to a lesser extent with my Nickent 3DX 19 degree utility. What 15 degree 3 wood/ 19 degree utility can readers recommend who are also familure with my driver set-up ?

I was able to pick a Taylormade V-steel 3 wood for £40 the other week and I must admit that it i now my favourite club to hit...period! I find it the most consistent club in the bag going both longer and straighter than my driver. I would highly recommend this club if you can pick one up. Jamie

You could consider the Cobra X-Speed fairway and the Cobra Baffler Pro. Both have truly square faces and neutral weighting. The Bafflers in particular seem to gain rave user-reviews. Cobra do tend to put light shafts in their fairway woods (think the X-Speed has a 65g Fuji shaft) which might be a bit light for you, but they can be had for cheap prices so you could go for a heavier shaft if you found you need it. Would personally recommend the TM Dual TP. Has a very distinctive feel and sound, but really love mine. The TP has a more neutral face and weight distribution than the std model (which can be a hook monster), and the adjustable weights will also help to fine tune the final trajectory.

Have to agree with Jamie the V steel do take some beating in the fairway wood department. Must admit though theres been a few sonartec fairways and utilities flying around our club lately, had a few cracks and they too are very nice piece's of kit. Both above mentioned are worth taking a look at.

I've an MD players 3 wood with UST Hi-kick silver series 65 which might fit the bill. Not sure if the flex would be too light for you though. I can't hit it for toffee!

I have a sonartec TRC in 16 degree for sale if you are intersted. Its a reg flex so not sure if its to soft for you. If you are intersted mail me. Cheers Ian

I hit a 906f2 with a 98g V2 shaft, (I too prefer a heavier shaft and have the same as you in my FT-3 Tour), and it was superb, sets up well and feels great, haven't hit any of the current Titleist rescues but you'll struggle to find a better fairway match for your driver.

where can i get a cheap v steel 3 wood from ?
|

Wooders, I would look on ebay or any second hand bin at your local golf store. Take note that there are two models. The second version I think has a weighted insert (not 100% sure though) but i would just stick with the original version if you can pick one up. If you do manage to get your hands on one you wont regret it! Jamie

I'd join those recommending the Titleist 906F2... it's a fantastic club and if you want something which sits behind the ball well there can't be anything better. There 'this and that' sole means the club sits close to the ground so it's great of the deck as well as of a tee. In terms of shafts, by all mean stick a UST ProForce V2 in there, but that is an almighty stiff shaft in a Titleist head. I play with Dynamic Gold S300's all the through to my hybrids so thought the UST may suit me for my 3 wood and driver... wrong... I found the new Aldila VS Proto in stiff to be a fantastic shaft. So as usual, recommend the head, but go find an official stockist so you can try out the different shafts! Chris Final advice, buy one, you'll love it.
