Hey All, Fairly new again (returning after many years) to this golf thing and need some new sticks but only have about £150-200 to spend on set of irons.

I have seen a set of MD Superstrong Forged OS for £153 anyone have any experience of these clubs?

Highly recommend any of the MD equipment got a set of the superstrongs myself you will pay under half the price of branded equipment and you will find its just as good if not better.

Have you looked at second hand from your local pro/large golf seller... Poss better value and get a name. However when I cam back to play some 10 years ago now I got a set of Regis from AGD and they threw in a driver 3 and 5 wood for £100 - all second hand.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - Mizuno MX-15, cavity-backed making them easier to hit, new for £150ish.  Not too chunky like the MX-17s.  I paid £200 for mine when I took up golf again about 2½ years ago and they are a fine iron, still use them today.  You can't go wrong.

MDs get a very good write-up too.

MD clubs are as good as most 'name' brands - their price is lowered because they don't spend a fortune on marketing and sponsoring tour pros, a cost that is handed down to the punter with the big names.

MD also do the Tungsten ti iron which is a cavity-backed iron (Superstrong forged is muscle-backed) - so if you're a higher handicapper they may be a better bet. They can be had on ebay for £180 at the moment.

Another vote from me for the mx15s,available at Direct Golf for £199, or probably even less on flea bay.

MD clubs are good game improvement clubs. Also Taylor made RAC HT 5-pw available from www.onlinegolf.co.uk for about £160. I bought a set for my brothers birthday last year and he has played well with them coupled with 4 and 5 hybrids.

This site is almost becoming a MD/Mizuno forum .

But a couple of years ago when I joined, MD was very much a fringe budget manufacturer who few recommended. Goes to show how far they've come in that time.

Niblick, MD did three Superstrong forged.

It's the third that Liam is referring to which is very much a game improvement club.

For my two pennorth, although I have Mizunos, for that money I would go for the MD Forged Oversize.  If you look at the press link on the MD Golf web-site you can see some links to magazine reviews.

Liam - how long have you been away from the game? I came back after  a thirty year absence and found that although cavities (practically unknown when I last played) were a lot more forgiving than the old blades, in the end only blades would do (I just couldn't get the feel or control from cavities). I would humbly suggest buying as cheap as possible, getting your swing back, and only then deciding.

Well spotted Robster.

The Superstrong OS won a budget iron award in one of the big mags, when they were priced at £300 - so it sounds like a bargain.

Thanks for All the advice.

I've been away for about 15 years and I am currently hacking with an old set of Hippo Irons - and with Christmas coming up I thought I might buy myself an early present. I guess the next step would be to try them although I will try Mizuno also if I can

I was looking to get a set of MD superstrongs about 3 months ago - but I couldn't find anywhere where I could hit a set - so in the end I plumped for some bargin Tommy Armour Silver Scotts which cost me about £110 and have worked out great (even though if I had the choice again, I'd get some more beginner focused clubs as my much needed confidence takes huge dents on bad days!)

If you do find somewhere that has MD superstrongs and a decent range to hit them down, please let us know!
