I have a very cheap (very, very cheap) rescue club in my bag at the moment. Which was OK whilst I was just starting out on my golf journey. I've gotten along with it great. It's just that I can't help feeling that such a cheap club (it's Prosimmon ~ £9.99) isn't now giving me the full benefit. Now I don't want to spend a lot, as I don't particularly have it spare, at the moment.

Obviously the M8 has had very good reviews and the price is very favourable. I've also, some months back, bought one for my girlfriend for her birthday. She loves it. (I would have bought one for me then to save postage but they'd sold out!)

If anyone has anything to say about this club, then I'm all ears.

The Ben Sayers m8 got excellent reviews as a budget utility.

Other quality budget clubs that are worth trying:

Benross V5 escape

MD Golf Blackhawk utility

I have an MD Golf Equaliser, which can be had for £40 at the moment. It's superb. I've hit so many of my best shots with it - including my best ever approach to a green. It's about to be superceded so can be nabbed at a bargain price.

Having said that... no doubt this post will be followed by the inevitable Mizuno recommendation

Bronsi, I have had an M8 for a couple of seasons and found it to be a great club. I have the 20 degree and this replaced my 3 iron. It's been such a success that I'm thinking of adding the 23 degree club. I was considering changing it for a Cobra DWS but after seeing the latest reviews of utility clubs I think I'll stick with the M8.

I have the 23 deg and the 17 deg 06 models, find the 23 superb 17 less so (better results all round with BS M1 3W, but I think thats down to me more than the club, looked at the 07 models but less ofset, so for slicing me, not as useful, off to try an R7 draw rescue tonight as I'm a brand snob and fancy a change plus cant think of anything else for kids to get me for Christmas

It's the 20 degree I'm thinking of. I've tried so many rescues of around 17 or 18 degrees with generally poor results unless it's off a tee. I'd rather hit my 3 wood or my rescue. My current one is 21 degree and works quite well, but I can't help feeling that I could get more out of a club which isn't a budget, budget club. The 20 degree M8 is being advertised on many sites these days at £29.99 + p&p. All the reviews seem to be good but it'd be nice to get some "user" feedback as well. My thinking is to get the 20 and if I get on well enough with it, then get the 17 degree.

I've had some goes with a Nike Slingshot, a couple of the Pings and a mate has one of those TM R5 rescues that came from JJB. To be honest these were with very mixed results so I'd rather buy a recommended club at £40 than spend unnecessarily on a big brand. I'm never going to be Tiger Woods and golf isn't the only thing in life. So I'd rather spend sensibly and have some left over for other things.

Get the 20, my next club up is a 4+ wood. I wouldn't bother with a utility club with lower than 20 degrees.

Yeah, agree don't bother with a rescue below 20 deg, I bought a 17 deg M8 (06 model)and found it okay off the tee but not off the fairway. Now only use a 23 Deg M8, next up is the 5W, the 17 + 20 deg M8's are now gathering dust.

Santa Claus bought me my 20 deg M8. Bit weird first couple of hits, then started to get used to it. Lovely. Superb club. Now if only the rain would stop so that I can get more use out of it. Why spend £100 on a club when you can get this for £35?

I have the benross v5 20 degree with the nvs shaft upgrade and can't fault it. want to get the 23 degree next to replace my ailing 7 wood

I've had 17 & 23 degree M8s for over 2 years. Got them as a 17 handicapper and found the 23 brilliant but the 17 unusable due to the slice. Two years of lessons and now 10 handicap and the 23 is unusable as the offset means I can't control the draw, but now I hit the 17 pretty straight and long. Great clubs but make sure find out which is the one for you first.

I,ve got a 21 degree RAM fx7 hybrid which cost me £25. I daresay there are better clubs out there from other manufacturers but I doubt you would find one anywhere near as good as this for the money.

I bought the 17 and 23 degree 07's last week and have only hit them at the range thus far.  I've found both of them to be very straight and long, whilst being really easy to hit.

Of course, hitting balls at the range is nothing compared to on the course, so I will have a better opinion of them after this weekend.   So far though, at £25 a pop, they seem like an absolute bargain.
