Hi For xmas I got an electric trolley, the make is Energy golf. Strangley there were no instructions at all in the box, so i'm having a bit of trouble knowing exactly how i should care for the battery so I get the best from it. The reason i am on here is because today I got to the 12th hole and i started to have problems, it started to cut out, and by the 18th I was pushing the trolley round. I played 18 with it last week and it was fine, when i'd finished I charged the battery ready for today so why did it start to run out??? The battery is supposed to be for 36 holes. Also whats the deal with the charging unit for the battery, it's a pretty standard set up by the look of it with a red light letting you know that it's charging and a green one to tell you it's charged. Is that how they work? red charging and green finished? Without any instructions i am at a bit of a loss. Somebody told me that you should leave the battery on charge constantly...is that right?? seems a bit excessive doesn't it? And is it even charging the battery once the green light has come on? Cheers in advance!

If you charged it until the light goes green and it is a 36 hole battery it should not have cut out. Leaving it on charge does not continue to charge it but will ensure it stays topped up over a long period. Trolley batteries can usually take about 400 recharge cycles before failure. There is obviously a problem and as you have a 12 month warranty - get it replaced.

Contrary to what most people believe, when the green light comes on, the battery is only about 90% charged. 3 stage chargers work by a) fast charge - red light on - which takes the battery to 90% or so. b) It then changes to a 'Trickle charge' - green light comes on - which tops the battery to 100%. c) when charging is complete, the charger goes to 'Float' which keeps it at 100% - green light stays on. You should charge the battery for a minimum of 10 hours to ensure it's fully charged. When the red light goes out and the green comes on, the battery can be used but it's not full! A lot of chargers have a timing cycle, and if you switch off too soon the charger will attempt to start agin from the beginning of the cycle. However - it looks like you have a duff charger or battery, so I'd get it changed under warranty.

Andrew, I have one of the 'Energy' Trolleys and think its great, a PowerCaddy rip off but stronger, You are right in your assumptions about the red & green lights, after a overnight charge my battery will do 27 holes even when the ground is as clarty as it is at present, so I guess Bluebell is right you will have to get the battery or charger changed.. If you live anywhere around Northallerton we could do a Check!!!!

When charging my battery it goes on charge and stays on charge until it is next used. Modern chargers are simply plug it in and leave it.
