Did anyone see this training aid on the Golf channel's Fore Inventors Only? Seems they are going to start selling them in the US this week.

http://www.gyroswing.com/index.html

For anyone who didn't see it. It's basically a driver shaped club with a battery powered gyro inside the clubhead. The idea is, the gyro tries to keep the club on plane as you swing, so you get the correct feeling. Probably suits golf instructors who prefer to teach via feel rather than mechanics.

I think its amazing mate. Saw it late last year and figured it'd be a big seller. Makes total sense

The technology is sound. Nothing new in gyros, they have just found another application for them.

How much are they going to be?

I would like to try it out for sure.

If the product has as much effort expended on its development as the website does then I am not optimistic.

Anyway, how does the club know what the correct swing place is??

If it actually turns out to be useful, who cares if they don't have a fancy website or infomerical yet. The website claims the inventor has spent $10k. Looks like the price is going to be $219.99 though. Still I'll try to reserve judgement until I or someone gets to try one. A lot scorned the momentus power hitter driver when it first appeared, but now on some US forums there are quite a few rave reviews.

Yeah, you could probably start off a whole seperate thread discussing what is the 'correct' plane. 1 vs 2 plane, finding the slot, etc. I guess a good answer as any is the one that works for you. On the Fore Inventors show, the inventor seemed to be told to not get overly technical about how it works. Gyros tend to resist movement off their current orientation, so maybe it doesn't matter what plane..just that it tries to keep the club on it?

Still waiting for reviews, but found a video clip of Rick Smith using the Gyro Swing at the 2008 PGA Merchandise Show:

Seems like they have got Rick Smith to endorse it, so probably not the most unbiased commentary on it.  But gives you an idea of what benefit(s) it is supposed to give.

Interesting gadget that's for sure, must have some useful characteristics and if reliable would certainly be good for a beginner and even some of the more seasoned (read bad habit) golfers like me to get hold of.

Wonder how much it will cost if it ever makes it across the pond and is retailed here?  I would have thought at least around £250 if the middle men get hold of it, I also didnt notice any reference to whether you can hit balls with it so I assume you cant?. Probably smash the internals to pieces after a few range balls.

The youtube website was down for a few hours due to Pakistan banning youtube, which is probably why it wasn't working for you Tinman.
