The mrs has just agreed to buy me a 2 ball, so all i need /want now is a new lob wedge,. got just a cheap progen at the moment but want a new one as i got new of everything else this xmas! Any suggestions what to get. also what degree would be suitable, my irons only go to pitching wedge so i am without a sand wedge. i swear to myself this will be the last club i buy in a long tim but somehow dont believe myself!

 76 - 106... I would go for a 56 degree sand... Can't go wrong with Vokeys if you ask me. I've got a 50, 56 and 60.

yeah, you really ought to have a sand wedge in the bag. my choice is mizuno's mp-r range, excellent wedges.

if u want a lob wedge. then my suggestion is 60 degree. either a titleist vokey spin milled. if u like a softer feel. a harder feel would be something like the mizunos. or a cleveland 588. best of both worlds to me at the minute is the new cleveland cg12's with the zip grooves. the grooves really work, it has a nice feel to it. u can get it in various bounce options. and its a nice looking club at address . i have a ben hogan 60 , vokey sm 56 and a cg12 52. there all really good , but im changing my 60 to one of the other 2 soon.

76 - 106. If you're only buying one wedge then it has to be something between 54-56, with a medium bounce and maybe a a c-grind. This mix will give you a bit of flexibility around the green. Personally I think Adam's mix of wedges seems spot on, and maybe, like me, has spent his fair share of time missing the green.

 |
Adam, I'm also looking to change my wedges and currently have Cleveland 588s 51,56 and 60. How does your SM compare with the CG12
|
 |
You need a SW, i would go 54, as your wedge is prob 48 ish. Other thing to consider, will it be the last club you buy Or will you be looking for another wedge, then buy one you can slot another one around it.

76-106, If you were to have the money for a vokey, you could afford say a 54 & 58 from a better manufacturer off the interweb. if you have a look around there are some good deals on wedges from Cleveland & Mizuno. Also Md and Benross are cheaper but still work well. As an add on - i see a thing for Odyssey Wedges relating to this from 2004. I take it these were a big success

Nothing wrong with the Progen you already have (unless the grooves are wearing out). The simple reason they are cheaper than a lot of 'named' wedges is that they do have to line the pockets of Tour players. I dropped the Vokey from my bag after trying one.

 |
If you do need a new wedge, and I agree the Progen should be fine unless wearing. The MD Golf Cobalt wedge would be fine choice and an exceptional addition to any bag at a mere snip of the cost of the others quoted. Take a look on flea bay - if you do go this route make sure it is the cobalt wedge.

to latin dancer. when i first got my vokey spin milled , i loved it and was gonna get the rest the same, apart from my 52 which at the time was a cleveland 900 series gunmetal which i vowed never to get rid off . but i lost it when i was in spain so the day i got back i went to get a new one, they didnt have a vokey 52 at that time so i went for a very similar looking cleveland to my 900. and i must say i actually prefer the cleveland to the vokey. but if u like the vokey better i would go for the oil can finish as the satin get stained very easily, i have a few mates who have the spin milled and well all have staining on the face , which i cant get rid of.

too many choices! the vokeys are well known to be good, theres alot of different ones on the market. the progen does serve its purpose im just greedy on the new gear. will keep my options open, but think if i were to go then a vokey is prob the best choice. Maybe if i win some shop vouchers in a few comps i may just have to get one!

Bought a pair of Gauge design GAS-2 wedges from this guy: www.pureforged.co.uk quite expensive but absolutely gorgeous, costing me a fortune in golf balls though but it's worth it to see my playing patners faces when the ball jumps back on the green

My Dad absolutely loves the SMT gap wedge I got him for Christmas: you could do a lot worse than get the 55* version of that.

 |
76-106, I have three Cleveland 588's, a 52, a 56 and a 60 and I have to say they are far superior to the Wilson TW5 I had as a sand wedge. I got the Clevelands on the Bay of Evil and the three cost me what one and a half Vokey's would have Chris

Ah, john smith, you must hhave bought them off ebay about 3 weeks ago - I was just about to buy them when you did. Fortunately he had a pair of Gauge GAS1SQBT with the very deep double milling, awesome spin, sometimes too much.
76-106 - pesonally I think a58 wedge is a great option, great from sand and you only need to open it up a liyyle to give you a good lob. Only thing is if you only have a pitching wedge now (usually 48 degree) going above 56 will be too big a gap so you will wany another wedge. Personally I use a 47PW, 52 gap and 58 sand/lob.

Hi Geldap, you are correct. I notice he now has an online shop selling some VERY nice gear, Tour Cameron's and real Bettinardi's, not the mizuno ones (which are probably the best retail putter out there at the minute). he has put a set of the Chikara Production wedges in as a prize in golfpunk magazine this month www.pureforged.co.uk Spot-on with with the lofts as well, 48, 52 & 58 is the best option for me personally as the 58 covers both SW & LW job's.
