Hi, just joined up today, as I am on the hunt for a new set of clubs.

Not really played at all for about 15 years so I was gonna treat myself to a nice shiny new set of clubs. (I do have a set but they are about 16 years old, very cheap and not much fun to use.)

Only looking to spend upto £200 at the moment as it's all I can afford at the moment, and I will perhaps look to upgrade in a couple of years depending how I get on.

Found these at quite a good price, so what do you think.

Any suggestions greatly received.

Thanks

Wayne.

hello wayne

welcome back to the pain and frustration that is golf!

i was in your situation a wee while ago and got some good advice here, ther arte plenty of folk on here who know their stuff

what i would suggest is that a package set such as the one you refer to is probably not what you want,i say this because the quality will not be as good as irons/woods that you buy separately adn also because you wont need four woods and a full set of irons. a set or irons & wedges and a three wood will do (for starters!)

i think you have two better options

1 get a nearly new set on ebay or the second hand bit at at american golf; golfbidder is also an option (though pricier)

2 get some "componentclubs" - there are not branded (wilson ping etc) but are often modelled on the big brands and are substrantially cheaper, despite coming with whatever shaft abd grip you specify

i bought my set from midas golf (based in yorkshire) shaun from midas goes by the name of exxmax on this website and will give you more information than you will ever need.

i cant recomend Midas highly enough, they made me a test club for about £20, then i went back and ordered some more. i wound up with SMT irons which work out at about £250 for a full set but i also tried Acer irons which were far cheaper, i did actually order the Acers but the model i ordered was discontinued and they couldntget any more, hence the upgrade.

the other good thing about components is that if (like me) you can hit a three iron for toffee, dont buy one (my set starts at 5) and get a hybrid instead

Ok thanks for that johnnyboy.

Have decided to keep with what I've got for the time being and just replace bits at a time.

Looking at these irons for a start.

Or maybe these.

Thanks Tim.

Welcome ForestGrump.

I'm looking at the Di7s too. Just cant make my mind up and committ to the purchase.
