easy to hit 2 iron

Rescue club every time. A 2 iron is a stupid choice of club unless you are a touring pro. Why make the game harder for yourself. BTW I have no trouble playing punch shots with my 19 degree rescue.

I am glad I took up the game when technology had made the game accesible for all. Imagine starting with hickory shafted blades?? You would give up after 5 minutes - the missus would be happy though I suppose.

Im unsure about this rescue v 2 iron thingy at the moment!

I have used rescue clubs for the past 2 years or so but have recently dropped all of them in favour of my irons including a 2 iron which i use a fair bit, especially off the tee. So far the results have been good. Waiting to see how i get on in comps this year without any woods or rescue clubs in my bag.

The reason a lot of you will be struggling with hybrids is because of several important reasons;

many of them are heel weighted, if you a good striker then you will hook them, 2 irons will feel easier to hit compared to these

Many have offset, most 2 rions don't

And most of you will ignore the shaft, as long as its an 'ok' brand them it should be ok. It won't.

Match a decent hybrid just as carefully as you do a driver then it will be infinitly easier to hit than any 2 iron, which is incidently now the same loft that Trevino once said was IMPOSSIBLE to hit, an old 1 iron.  Trevino is one fo the purest strikers of the ball ever, so makes you think you can hit a club he didn't use?

Pick a hybrid off the shelf, and its pot luck, take the 2 rion that matches your irons and its 50/50 at least.

Just to update, I took my trusty 20 year old blade 2 iron out in the winter saturday comp.

Needless to say it was very windy out there.

Only needed to use it twice, once on the tee where I hit a reasonable low tee shot into the wind and once from the light rough on a long uphill par 4, had about 185 to a green uphill, creamed the 2 iron low into the wind looked perfect. got to the green to find the ball had chased upto the green to within 5 ft of the hole. My playing partners who were lower handicap players than me were suitably impressed, the hole is 407 and is SI 1.

Needless to say I missed the birdie put but made a rare par.

I dont know why I can hit it but certainly is a very useful club to have in the bag when its windy.

I don't even carry a 3 iron let alone a 2 iron give me a 19* rescue and a 21* 7 wood to replace those devil sticks any day!

" A 2 iron is a stupid choice of club unless you are a touring pro."

Sorry Dave but that is bollocks mate - the 2iron I have is a game improvement club(Ping Rapture) and is very easy to hit of the tee or the deck. Has the advantage of a lower ball flight than a rescue and every bit as easy to hit(for me anyway)

I'm firmly in the pro 2i camp at the moment. With the wind we've been having and my iron striking resurgence recently the 2i has become a godsend as compared the hybrid. I get far more penetrating low flighted shots with the 2i than I ever did with the hybrid.

I know it probably won't last and I'll soon enough be back to the hybrid but for now, its working, so it stays in the bag.

I can hit my 2i not a lot shorter than my driver, and a lot straighter too, so I've even taken a few driver holes out with it and found much better consistency in scoring.

I think Wormburner has the money post here. The argument isn't between 2 iron and hybrid it's between 2 iron and off the shelf hybrid designed to help us mortals get the ball in the air.

I'm talking to my clubfitter now about building a 18* hybrid with a tour trajectory shaft for those pentrating shots. It'll do what I want off the tee without changing my swing, but still be more forgiving than a 2 iron from the fairway and rough.

Yup, try the Cobra Pro with a Graf Blue, I borrowed one and tried my best to put a bad swign on it and duff it, but it just goes like a rocket, whatever you do. I have a 15  deg 3 wood and then a 4 iron at 24.5 degress,  so I use a 19 degree hybrid, and the Cobra is at the top of the list

Shaft too stiff for me, but I'll look out for something similar. Probably going to go component route though.

I like the Fuji 26.3 because it plays quite soft to flex and the butt is stiffer relative to the tip, so it plays between flexes if you like.  Try Tour Edge Exotics, Tour Swing or Nickent for alternatives, not to mention cheap Sonartecs now they have gone.
