Aldila NVS 65 vs. UST V2 65
What the difference?

Can anyone give me some indication as to differences between the Aldila NVS 65 and UST V2 65 driver shafts?

I'm looking at a 12 degree Geek Dot Com driver and wondered if anyone on the forum could shed some light on the attributes of these 2 shafts?

Same weight, same sort of stiffness, similar launch conditions ones black silver and yellow, ones orange.  Take your pick.

I've never extensively used either so these are just my guidelines but I don't think there will be much of a difference between them.  Should give you a fairly middle of the road trajectory if you get the flex right. In theory the V2 twists a bit less so might give you (ever so slightly) more control but I doubt you'll find many people who think torque makes any difference to even the best golfers never mind us...

Make sure it's an NVS not an NV.  The NV gives you a flight like you've thinned it, and it's a weird green colour...

I assume your going through Bighitgeoff, trust him he knows his stuff

My advice go to your driving range and demo a driver with the shafts in (there should be loads of older models like titliest and calaway with both in) maybe you will spot a difference or find a favourite.

I disagree, I think the UST profiles differently enough for anyone to feel it against a UST, the V2 has a much stiffer tip for a start. We are all sensitive to these things differently. I hate both these shafts intensely, so maybe they are alike, but imo the NVS will fly higher.

Cheers Guys - I've had a response off Geoff and based on the info I supplied he's sending through a Failsafe 10.5 degree demo with the Aldila shaft.

I have a Wilson DD6+ with a Proforce V2 in regular and I find I tend to overpower the shaft and cannot get a consistent shot shape with it .

I also have a Wilson DD6 with an Aldila NV -PL 65 in regular which produces a much more consistent shpt shape for me.

I was comparing this shaft with the one in  my mates Cobra (standard NV 65) and it appeared to be a slightly firmer flex

Al;though I like to think that I have been a good player for a long time I have never bothered too much with shafts-say in a driver- because if I really like a particular head and the loft is right for me-usually 10.5 in a titanium head- I try various shafts until I have one which hits it as long as the others but consistently straighter.

You always appear to know a LOT about shafts so would you please comment on the shaft I have in my Geek which is a Regular Grafalloy Prologic 75 gramme shaft 45 1/2 "I go a lot on FEEL and with this club I invariably get a soft feel with the shaft bending very slightly and the ball going off on a mid trajectory with a fair amount of roll on landing. I hit my drives VERY straight with the best having a yard or two of draw. Obvously as I am now 72 I am always looking for LENGTH but I wonder if I could ever find a shaft which would give me SIGNIFICANT extra distance over what I have now?!

The V2 is a slightly lower torque and having hit both of them, I think the V2 feels "boardy" but not in a bad way. I feel that the V2 suits a hitter, more than it does a swinger and a more powerful person, whereas the NVS suits someone with a smoother tempo that is more of a smooth swinger type. As CBE says, try to demo them.

Compared to some on nthe US boards, I am a shaft novice!  I try and only comment on what I've hit, and any opinion is based on what I've experienced myself and unfortunatley I haven't hit that Graf shaft. HOWEVER, I seriously doubt you will get significant distance gains with any shaft based on what info you have supplied, certainly probably not for a player as consistent as yourself.

A sense of 'flex' or as some call it, 'load', is a very personal thing and many players confuse flex feel for impact feel, its difficult for an exprienced fitter to gauge this on a range, online its impossible.

But if you have a good trajectory, very straight, and get a draw,  then stick with it I think. You may get some distance gains from more carry, but may lose roll, the hassle you will have trying out many shafts will piss you off, and cost money.

You may get distance gains just by changing balls, try and look for a higehr launch with less spin, so increasing your angle of attack to reduce spin and using a lower spin ball at the same time etc etc, several things to do as well as looking at shafts.

The soft feel will probably be the tip.

The driver you have was  beautiful from the first hit.  If I could get more of those Prologic 75 Tour regs and stiffs  then I would fit them as standard. They wouldn't suit the burner as they aren't tight enough in the tip (4.5 deg torque) but they would suit most people.

He's right, the ball makes a huge difference.

Always take your own driver when you go to demo days as comparison, the balls they use can enhance the length the drives go. AND only buy the driver you have hit.

Geoff

You are spot on ,of course. The Geek I obtained from you is by far the best performing club/shaft I have ever owned and truly I almost struggle to MISS a fairway or the middle of the clubhead with it!

I suppose that every good and competitive golfer of my generation who plays regularly with very low handicap youngsters who hit the ball prodigious distances longs for an extra 10 or 12 yards with a driver. But, on reflection I doubt if ANY head + shaft combination could possibly give me more performance than the club I have now!

Wormburner is correct on the main difference between NVS and V2-namely the tip stiffness. Most Adila are tip soft and therefore suited to smoother, swinger types-as opposed to those who load the shaft and hit/swing harder/faster.

V2 (depends on model/spec of course) can certainly be described as boardy but not in the same way some Prolaunch shafts are.
