You are right Lawman - which is why it is worth buying the best initially, so you can keep it for the whole of your golfing life.

I assumed Sam was a younger player and he also likes the 'Old School' style - good for him, so he should buy something that will get the patina of age, along with him. An original Ping Anser always scares the carp out of me, when I see one in an opponents bag.

The new Ping Karsten putters are all classic designs at sub-£80. Haven't tried them but they sure look good! Maybe worth a try?

If you can play a round with a cheapo dunlop putter and not 3 putt then you don't need a new putter - end of! If you want a new putter then get one - just don't expect it to make any difference to your putting ability! As for 3 wood - Taylormade Burner!
